I've long been a fan of Disney stage shows ... and from 1985 to 1995, I watched thousands of stage shows at the Space Stage, Videopolis, the Golden Horseshoe, and other such locations.

Also video taped a whole bunch of stuff!

Just today, I started transferring a lot of old tapes over to DVD, before they deteriorate too much! First off, may I say it is amazing how good the picture still is after 15 to 25 years! (At least for the stuff in 2 hour speed. The tape I was given of shows I didn't get to tape myself, which was in 6 hour speed, isn't in nearly as good of shape!)

America Is, Showbiz Is, Dick Tracy, Beauty and the Beast, Disneyland is Your Land, Sargent Preston's, The Golden Horseshoe Revue ... even Kirk Wall substituting in Terri Robinson and the Rhythm Bros! It's so much fun seeing all these shows again!

Any other stage show fans on here?

LIST OF SHOWS
America Sings: A tape made in the attraction, sometime after they removed a couple of figures to use them in Star Tours.
America Is ...: A show on the old Space Stage, spring 1985 (I never saw the show live, somebody gave me the tape.)
Dick Tracy Diamond Double-Cross: Several shows, all good quality, including 8:00 on 12/25, when the control booth went down and the show ended mid-show.
Golden Horseshoe: Betty Taylor, Jay Meyer, Dick Hardwick, full, normal show.
Golden Horseshoe: Betty Taylor, Jay Meyer, Dick Hardwick, no can-can girls (Betty does Bill Bailey, Jay does Tie Me Kangaroo Down).
Circus Fantasy (1988): Videopolis Stage, 2nd year
Rosie O'Grady's: Jim Carter, Luralee, 2nd and 4th shows (A show at Church Street Station, downtown Orlando)
Fantasy Follies: Carnation Gardens Stage, late '80s
Mickey's Nutcracker: Daytime
Mickey's Nutcracker: Nighttime
Beauty & the Beast: 6/11/94 Kelly as Belle, wide angle & close up versions
Coke Corner Piano: 3 or 4 songs from Paul Orsi
Prince Ali's Royal Caravan: (Parade, DL, '94)
ShowBiz Is ...: Videopolis Stage, 1986
Disneyland is Your Land: Space Stage 1985
Sargent Preston's Christmas Shows: Janet, Claudia, Denny, John, Ron, both the first and second shows (Performed at the Disneyland Hotel for many years)

I used to love the shows at Fantasyland amphitheater years ago. They've not had a show there in many many years it seems.

Dick Tracy and Pocohantas were two of Disney's best done stage shows. Second only to Aladdin which is good but I feel has long run its course.

Disney World has Nemo which is good but the kids were bored with it.

Afraid I moved to Orlando in '94 ... I've never seen the Aladdin show. What level of quality compared to Dick Tracy? That was one of my favorites.

Actually, I don't recall if I ever saw a Pocahontas show at Disneyland ... I wasn't too impressed with the one at WDW. But at the time, DL had a reputation for doing more with their shows. Don't know if it is still the case or not.

Still loved the night where they blew a circuit in the control booth during Dick Tracy, and had to restart the show.

"Dick Tracy ... you're late again!"

"I know, Tess ... second time in ten minutes!"

Would you be willing to make copies of these shows? I'ld love to see them:thumbsup2

Right now I'm just concentrating on getting them all transferred over to DVD ... once I actually finish all that, I hope to find a place to be able to post them online for others to be able to enjoy as well.

But first, many many tapes to transfer over.

(And that doesn't include the 70 hours or so of Adventurers Club footage to transfer, as well.)

But eventually, yes.

Sounds fun! Can't wait to see them.:goodvibes

Pocohonatas at WDW was just a small show for kids. At DL it was a large stage musical show.

Aladdin at DL is also a large full stage show. It is inside a theater larger than WDW's NEMO. Very well done but has been running for many years. They are supposed to replace it with a Toy Story show. I love the TS movies but compared to the shows DL has had in the past I can't imagine it being a good stage show. Mostly because all past shows have been musicals and Toy Story doesn't lend itself that well to such. I've seen Disney On Ice with Toy Story and kids loved it but overall it just didn't fit.

Sounds like someday I will have to manage a tape or DVD of the Aladdin show ... sounds on par with some of the ones from my days.

Just transferred over the Golden Horseshoe Revue from the day they told the cast they were getting rid of the show. The can-can girls were so upset, they didn't perform for a show, so Betty Taylor and Jay Meyers both did an extra song, before Dick Hardwick came in and did his traveling salesman bit. Bit of a different show, but I'm glad I got it on tape.

Mickey's Nutcracker tonight ... preferred the Magic of Christmas show, but the Nutcracker was still kind of fun, and worth keeping track of.

[edit]Nope ... after watching it, Nutcracker had nothing on Magic of Christmas![/edit]

I'm noticing a disturbing trend here ... I have high quality tapes of Mickey's Nutcracker and low quality (deteriorated) copies of the Magic of Christmas show.

I have high quality shows from the second year of the Circus Fantasy stage show, and low quality versions of the first year, which was the one I preferred.

Better to have a poor quality version than no show at all, but why are the low quality ones the ones of my preferred shows?!?

(On the second year of Circus Fantasy, I just didn't like the changes to the show. You could get tension and a plot from the brother trying to protect his sister from the newcomer. Year two: "What about your sister?" "She's nice ... you should get to know her." Yuck!)

Somebody asked about sharing these ... I won't make promises of tons of copies of things super-quickly, but I will gladly make a DVD or two of some of the stuff a week ... preferably in trade for DVDs or good quality tapes of other stage shows and the like. I'm putting these in at a quality level that allows two hours on a DVD for most of them, and most of the shows are 25 to 35 minutes long, so either three or four shows on a tape, most of the time.

Of course, that means I probably ought to be working on a specific list of shows that have been copied over so far. [Edit]Am adding a list in the first post, which I'll keep adding to as I get more shows recorded onto the DVD recorder.[/edit]

Well, been four years since I checked in here, but figured I ought to stop by again ....

Most of my video tapes have now been converted to DVDs, and also uploaded to YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/DisneyBatchman

I am still interested in finding others who are into Disney stage shows, and have good quality copies of some of the shows I am missing (or different performances of some of the ones I already have) and trading some DVDs, or just hearing that someone enjoyed watching some of them on YouTube.

Do you mean the large theater in Fantasyland near It's a Small World? For a long time it had the Princess Faire, but now Disney has built a permanent location for the princesses. The Fantasyland theater has a great stage show musical called "Mickey and the Magical Map." We saw it last year and it's very entertaining.
