Disney Springs: Chef Art Smith's Homecomin'

Ate here for the first time in this trip... SO GOOD! We got the chicken that's like a piccata and the shrimp &grits, along with some sides and kids ordering off their kids' menu. Everyone was satisfied. Definitely would recommend.

We love it! The last three trips it was a must! We introduced it to my parents and they can't wait to go back. Our last trip we went twice since my parents enjoyed it so much!

We're meeting my in-laws at Disney Springs later in the week. I had been able to snag a large-party reservation for Homecomin' but they have never been there and don't want to go! They want to go to Jaleo instead. Womp womp.

I can't go to WDW without eating here.
I LOVE the Mac and Cheese and the Hushpuppies.
I usually just get a bunch of sides for my meal.

Next trip I can't afford any table service meals but Homecomin' is the one I won't sacrifice. It will be my only table service meal of the trip - It's been 5 years since I've had my hands on those hushpuppies LOL

Man, this place is tough to get!! Am I missing something? I am 60 days out, I got everything I wanted over 8 days except for Chef Art's. Zero before 8:55pm on multiple days at 60 days.

thoughts? Tricks? Ideas?

I went ahead and got the 855pm but will be stalking for earlier times.

would love any advice here. It's for 6 people, should I call?

Love Homecomin. Having been there dozens of times, and ALWAYS get the fried chicken. Just seemed like I had to - being what the place is famous for. I usually replace the mashed potatoes with Mac & cheese. Just ate there Monday night this week, and did something that somehow felt wrong - I didn't order the fried chicken...I instead decided to go with the country-fried steak. I love a good country/chicken fried steak which is usually one of those lowly truck-stop foods or TV dinner foods - but if done properly can be amazing. My favorite anywhere to date has been at Texaz Grill (Originally Lone Star Steak) in Phoenix, AZ. But I will definitely stick Homecomin's version right up there. Huge portion, fork-tender, perfectly battered cube steak...and delicious sawmill gravy. I was tempted to try their new Pot Roast as well - maybe next time now that I'm not afraid to stray from the chicken every time.

I’ve always seen Homecomin’ as Cracker Barrel with (paper) dish towel napkins, Edison lightbulbs, 3x the price. And not much difference in quality. Oh well, different strokes.

Homcomin’ is DH favorite restaurant in DS, we eat there most trips. I enjoy it.

It follows my basic Disney food rule. Don’t get what you can get at home. It will never be as good your grandma’s or if you live in an area known for something like pizza or a specific type of cuisine, etc. I live in New England, we don’t have a lot of good southern food.

I know lots of people really love this place, but it's very low on our list. Not that the food or service is bad, it's not. But it really is like diner food to us, and nothing really special. We prefer so many other places around WDW that are more interesting and have better food. But for those who love it and do it most trips, please enjoy. We all have different tastes!

I spend 20-25 nights a year at Disney, so I have plenty of time to explore many different restaurants and food types. Many of my favorites are Signatures, and I also tend to enjoy regional and ethnic food options or interesting/exotic spices. Most of my trips are a mix of those types of spots, but one or two of the nights I want comfort food. I'll sometimes opt for bar/grill spots like Geyser Point, chain American food spots like House of Blues or Rainforest, or a place like Homecomin, which has more traditional American foods at a higher level than the chain spots. It's specifically what I like about it - classic southern American foods (diner, comfort, etc), done fresher and at a higher level, with good drinks and spirits. Jiko remains my favorite Disney restaurant, and I'll spread around each trip with different options like Topolino's, Narcoosies, Toledo, San Angel, etc...and usually one night each trip is for the Geyser, Homecomin, Summer House, House of Blues, Rainforest, TRex, Raglan Road, etc.
