Eye stye

Hi I have a stye in my eye and swelling under me eye does anyone know any quick remedies to get rid of it? Its getting noticed when i go to work

I use Stye brand ointment available OTC at your local drug store. You can also use warm compresses multiple times a day. And be sure to wash your hands before touching your face and try to avoid touching that area at all.

A warm tea bag (black or green) - steep the tea bag in hot water for 1-2 minutes - let it cool until warm - apply to closed eyelid 5-10 minutes.

Looking back there have been several short threads here on styes, which are a nightmare when you get them - very painful and embarrassing. Styes are a result of some oil glands in the eyelid getting clogged up, like a pimple. Apparently this can be a problem for people with dry eyes, too, when lubrication becomes blocked.

Traditional solutions for styes are to do warm soaks with a wet facecloth several times a day. Sometimes antibiotic ointments are prescribed or there are recommendations to wash lids and lashes with baby shampoo - none really that helpful when you’re in the midst of a...

According to my grandfather - rub a gold ring on it.

That said, hot compress seems to work best for me. Whether it's just water, or a tea bag, either works.

How long have you had it? If it’s been longer than a week, you need to go to a dr. Especially since you have swelling under your eye. You may need an antibiotic ointment. Warm compresses are the best home remedy.

When my son was young his pediatrician prescribed Vigamox drops. Holy cow that stuff works quick! I’m glad to see the price has come down because back then it was like $150+. Fortunately our insurance covered it. Today it seems the price is much better-

My sister used to get styes when we were growing up and usually took around 2 weeks to fully go away. The teabag method seemed to work because once she started with that it would get smaller each day. With Vigamox my son’s was gone within 48 hours - and it was a BIG stye!

I went to eye doctors several times during a stye practically begging for help and they would not prescribe eye ointment, drops, or anything else, just said to do the compresses 5x/day, which was messy and useless. (I did have some erythromycin eye ointment on hand, even the one that also has a steroid in it, and used it anyway, and nothing.)

I’d gotten so many styes I wound up self-referring to the Chalazion Clinic at Mass Eye and Ear and only then did I find a solution, thankfully. (Outlined in the thread I linked above). Once I got the Bruder mask and a prescription for Azithromycin drops, things turned around quickly and I haven’t even had another since, and that was two and a half years ago.

It’s frustrating trying to get help with these things. (And I know my way around the medical system very well.)
