Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

The weights comment above makes me wonder if the fault challenge they had earlier in the day had to do with load balancing? I’m not at all familiar with how these work and my only point of reference is a Ferris wheel but I’m wondering if that was the problem earlier in the day on the Pop line? I’m guessing that is the line that will travel with the most empty cars.

I know there are some here who understand this much better. Looking forward to hearing their thoughts.

The “weights” are wheel chocks for ECVs.

There can be balance issues. At ski resorts, with the hill being a factor, if someone is downloading, they often have to slow the whole line down while the passenger downloads. Routinely loading both ways, if there is an imbalance in people riding in one direction, they will start to offset that. Either buy sending empty cabins from the busy side, or adding weight from the light side. Sending empty is the far easier thing to do.

My wild guess is a load sensor was tripping causing a fault, and needed to be adjusted. In the early stages there is going to be a steep learning curve for the maintenance techs. This is part of it.
I think the many stoppages will also reduce over time, but not be eliminated. I think the riviera stop will likely generate most of those, it's the nature of that type of station.

I'd be curious for those that experienced multiple stops on one ride, to report which line the stops were on. I'd think it would be far lower on the cbr-dhs line and the pop-CBR line.

Where at a ski resort, when a new ropeway is put up, you still have experienced folks there. This install has a greater than average rookie staff. Give them a couple of weeks, and they'll start to work through most of this.

I would not be surprised to see the speed increase by the end of october as well, not by a lot, but some.

If you believe this then ask the people of Orlando how they feel about all of us 'tourists' driving on their roads. You and I are not paying those taxes.

Disney transportation is 'free' to all who wish to ride it....and I'm glad!

Actually, tourists are the ones paying for those roads. Florida has no personal income tax, the sales tax is lower than it is in WNY. And from what I hear, real estate taxes are a lot lower too. But the taxes on your hotel room or car rental are high & both state & county taxes are charged. That’s how they keep taxes low for residents....charge the tourists. Tourists won’t vote the politicians out & likely won’t change their travel plans because of taxes on their hotel stay. So they keep raising those.

Real Estate taxes aren't bad, but the fees are pretty substantial when you buy or refinance. But yes, for the most part, FL finances itself on the backs of tourists, snowbirds, and real estate investors.

Oh yep, those are high in NY too.

Add to this the tolls from MCO to the I-Drive corridor, especially those without SunPass.
We drive about half our trips so we get the tolls on the Florida Turnpike from I-75 and then the toll from that using 429 to Western Way. Now, I don't mind paying tolls at all, but some of my money I keep handing over on the Turnpike needs to go towards adding a lane both ways. Two lanes aren't enough.

There has been a strong push towards an I-75 relief for years, but nothing has come to fruition yet. So those going from Gainesville area to Tampa, wouldn't congest the corridor to Orlando.

Actually... we pay about $30 in tolls to the state of Florida every time we go to wdw, even more when we cruise out of Miami. It is no accident that Florida charges tolls on so many roads. It’s so outsiders pay.
I live in Orlando. I’m just guessing I pay more in tolls than the average tourist.... by about 30x’s.

Yeah, but that is just I-75. Where we always see the problem is actually just on the Turnpike. Gainesville traffic to Tampa wouldn't alleviate anything on the Turnpike. I-75 from Gainesville is busy, but it also has three lanes each direction for the most part.
