With a new string of Star Wars films on the way starting at the end of this year, Disney are getting ready to announce something big for their theme parks.

Chief of the corporation Bob Iger has said that they want to have a Star Wars presence inside several locations around the world, including their latest in Shanghai, which is due to open its gates in 2016 and has had $800 million spent on its development. Considering they have announced at least five new films over the next four years, they are hoping to cash in as much as possible.

Blah blah same thing they have been saying since they bought the brand. Show me some moving shovels and then I'll get excited.

Indeed. This carrot has been dangled for years now with nothing fulfilled. When earth moves I'll pay attention.

And contrary to what the so-called 'article' stated it won't be a dedicated theme park, or even half of one.

Call me naive, but what do we think is going to happen in DHS? They just happen to close down a bunch of attractions to do... Nothing? Iger has said there are plans for Star Wars in the Parks, every newspaper and Disney blog has said so, and if past performance is any indicator it would be in their typical playbook. I think we can move beyond this wait and see approach. Now will it get built how fast, where, and how some of us would like it? Probably not. Star Wars in some fashion is coming to DHS, it's just matter of time.

Yeah, this article is misleading. No fault of the OP, except for believing what a blog said.

I didn't say nothing was going to happen obviously something has to or DHS won't survive for long. Star Wars park plans have been talked about from Iger himself since he signed the paper to buy the company. I know it's just a matter of time my point is he keeps saying its coming but it obviously ain't coming soon. People act as if he has said something new no he hasn't he has said the same thing for the last two years. Yes Star Wars is coming everything I'm hearing points to 2019 and beyond. That isn't soon.

He said announcements later this year. They're going at the pace they want. I'm not sure why people keep whining about this; the resort is planning a multiphase rollout of offerings every year starting next.
2016) ROL
2017) Phase 1 Avatarland
2018) Phase 2 Avatarland
2017 or 18) JHM (iffy but for the sake of conversation) says we should see Phase 1 Pixar Land and Star Wars around this time. He said around 2017, I'll give them some breathing room.
2019?) Finish Star Wars Land? Not bad.

They had reasons to push it back, now it's starting to move. I have no problem waiting as long as it's good.

There is no phase 2 to avatar everything opens at once.
SO you believe everything Jim Hill says. He said construction would start in January he also said the same thing last year.

As long as it's good what if it isn't? Like I said Iger called NFL ambitious and huge but nothing revolutionary happened other than doubling the size of NFL.

Yeah, they're saying they may move back the boat rides opening to come online in conjunction with the movies.

"Iffy but for the sake of conversation."

Ehh, I think my quote speaks for itself.

See above.

NF was ambitious for the time under which it is was under construction. During the recovery from a recession. I know it's a hobby to bash NF, but it really is a nice area. Revolutionary? No. It is however better at doing what Fantasyland is supposed to do. Bringing the fairytales of WDC to life.

What do i think? or what do i want? or what do i fear?

I want immersion…i want star tours to be relegated to the 4th best star wars thing in the park (not a hard title to attain)…i want to be giddy when i'm in the giftshops…not killing time waiting for somebody to come out of the bathroom before we head to muppets…

What do i fear?
Minimal construction and maximum giftshops…character meet and greets and brief shows instead of engineering and multi sensory setups…
simulators instead of Gs…

What do i think?

Somewhere on the lower middle spectrum between "want" and "fear"…

and a star wars restaurant and bar that sells Wookiecoladas and Jawa Juice

Yes those were rumors for a while but if you look at the construction photos I posted and everything we know. The boat ride will use part of the banshee ride building so it wouldn't be right to open them separately. There were rumors for a while that the boat ride was axed also false.

Fantasyland was nothing more than building more space to handle the natural increase in attendance to magic kingdom…now they're paving the gardens in the hub…which is really phase II of crowd control…
I'm shocked that they really didn't increase the gift shop presence in the "new" fantasyland…isn't anybody else?
Not bothering to build new giftshops?
Anyone else think they disassembled that circus tent….stored in in the parking lot at D U…then reassembled it 18 months later?

i don't expect a single thing new coming in magic kingdom for at least 10 years now…maybe they take another shot at tomorrowland at some point…

If that means capital construction to the other 3 - i'm all for it. But i will credit when credit is due and we're not there yet.

Yes it's nice. It could've been worse hadn't they added the mine train. They still could've done better. Disney should be held to that standard. I've only known Disney since early 2000s really and know Disney should be held to higher standard than what we got in NFL.

Wouldn't be right and possible are two different things...

Though as you correctly pointed out, the boat ride has been a hot topic for a while. We'll find out more details soon. I just can't imagine them passing up the opportunity for multiple years of free publicity and publicity that comes with opening in conjunction with the movie.

I agree with you but I think they have to do something in 6 years for the 50th. If not that will be incredibly disappointing.

Wouldn't be right? It is right if you look at the construction photos the footprint of the banshee building touches the boat ride. It's supposed to use a corner of the building as part of a scene. They are two different things but that doesn't mean they can't go together.

I'm sorry, but NF is better then anything that was in there before. What made Snow Whites Scary Adventure up to Disney Standard, and Mine Train not? What made Toontown up to Disney Standard, and the Circus Area not good enough? Why is it that Ariel's Grotto was up to Disney Standard and the new ride and themed area not good enough? I think it checks all the marks.

You're quote not mine my friend. I was simply saying Disney is under no obligation to launch the two rides together no matter how awesome their total effect are. I'm well aware of how the two rides will interact, just not sure if they're tied together for launch.
