disney security vs universal security

I'm sure both Parks "profile," but it's more of a behavior profile rather than something like racial profiling. It doesn't have to do with, "What's that Hispanic guy doing?" but rather, "What's up with that guy who came in alone & keeps checking that suspicious bulge under his shirt?"

You are right: they're not going to admit to any kind of profiling, but they're also probably not going to discuss all of their hidden cameras, and other security methods.

My understanding is that WDW does a lot of security that you don't ever see. (Universal probably does, too.) I've heard that the purpose of the bag checks is essentially to slow people down so that security agents can profile.

Well if Disney Security profiles, they need to get better pro-filers! I look as American as Apple Pie. I have Green Blue Eyes & long Blonde Hair. I don't smoke and don't drink. I have been stopped by security and asked to open my water bottle so they can smell it! :sad2: It was sealed closed, never been open. I have been stopped by security to ask to see my Diet Coke cans :sad2: and the kicker last year, Christmas week I didn't feel like carrying a bag since I knew it was crowded. I put my small slim camera, my eye-glass case & inhaler in my sweat shirt pockets and went through the no bag line. I didn't have my camera in a bag, just in my pocket. The male security nodded and smiled at me. The female made me stop and empty my pockets! WTH??? They are not allowed to ask you to empty your pockets. I didn't know what was with her and wasn't going to sass back. I did as she asked, she looked like a fool and she said "have a nice day". I am 55 years old, I work in a school, I always wear Disney clothing. Do I look like I am going to smuggle something in ?????? Give me a break. :confused3 :sad2: If I wanted to smuggle my items in, I could have used a fanny pack and put it under my arm under my sweat shirt, but I didn't. I put them in my pockets and did the correct thing, went bag-less and still got stopped.
So of they are going to profile, they should train their security better in what type of person to look out for. I have been stopped toooooooo many times.
Below is a pic of me (the one to the right in the vest) taken 2 weeks ago in Epcot at the F&W Festival. Now do I look like someone who should be stopped so many times.....really now? I also want to add, I am a former CM.. I guess that was why they did it (left on good terms for rehire when ever I wanted to return).... :lmao:

I found it very odd when we stayed onsite at Universal that we never had our bags checked, where if we came in from the parking lot we did. Do they think people who stay onsite won't bring in weapons or what?

must have been a fluke visit :confused3 I know each time I stayed onsite I had bags checked. Over at the HRH they had a security point set up over just as you came onto the sidewalk area to the side of the theme park.

Can I ask you a silly question? If you were staying onsite, why did you drive to the park? It is a further walk to the parks from the parking lot than the resorts? :confused3

We were at UOR last weekend and attended HHN. It was mostly teenagers, then we got back to RPR and noticed teenagers were still everywhere. The parents must have been by the pool, in the room, or at the bar because you've got to be 21 or older to check-in, but still they are EVERYWHERE!

last week was what is known as Hell Week.

local high schools had days off and the teens swarm to the parks.

i always avoid hell week...........did it once, never again.

its called criminal profiling.. lol proud c.j major

yep criminal profiling is exactly what it is and their security doesn't do a very good job at it as far as I am concerned. I am living proof. No criminal record here, never broke the law. Heck, I don't even drink socially or smoke. Have a clean driving record. Yet they have stopped me on 3 occasions for further checking, as I explained in previous post..... :confused3
I think they need to go back to Disney University for further training...;)

I'm pretty sure criminal profiling has absolutely zero to do with whether you have blonde hair or blue eyes or two X chromosomes. It's about how you carry yourself and whether you look nervous, and if your hand is hovering around your belt, like there's something under your shirt that you're thinking about all the time. Traveling alone is always suspicious, too.

Not to mention which, I'm actually relieved that blond-haired, blue-eyed women don't get an automatic free pass, just because "everyone knows" they never, ever commit violent crimes.

I really don't think the bag checks really deter anything. I actually had a security guard ask me,Is that just a diaper bag?Go ahead. As if I couldn't sneak a weapon in a diaper bag:/

It wasnt that long ago, Disney caught a shoplifter who as it turns out had a 9mm gun on them...

I think both need to ramp up security a bit, because honestly it's all a joke.

We only stayed onsite once, so I was talking about other times we have gone to US/IOA and stayed offsite, parking in the parking deck.

Yes, but as the previous poster said, part of the goal is to slow down the line. Could they be stopping you and checking your stuff because they figure they won't find anything, don't have to look very hard, and are really just slowing down the line so another person can keep a better watch on someone else? I don't work at Disney, but I've worked in security, and done similar things.

And as far as looking as American as apple-pie... the emerging terrorist threat in the US is the home-grown terrorist. Looks don't have anything to do with it.

Also remember that older people and children are frequently used by criminals. Ask any cop how many times they've found drugs hidden in a baby's diaper. Maybe they think you look too innocent! LOL
