My sister and bil just got back from Disney. BIl is a police officer and he had a question that I couldn't answer. I hoped someone here would know.

BIL noticed armed deputies at the gates to the park but inside only unarmed Disney security. He wants to know if any of Disney security is armed or if they call in the locals for any serious problems.

So, anyone know?

I always tell him how good these boards are and this will be my chance to show him.

We drove down for a one day trip last weekend (crazy, I know!) and also saw what I thought were local police at the entrance to MK. They were talking to the Disney security people at the station where they check your bags before entering the park. Not sure what they were there for, but there didn't seem to be any problems.

I've seen the sherriff's at least once or twice every trip. The first time it really made me nervous as the trip was taken the day after the terror alert had been raised and they reported theme parks and sporting events as specific targets. This was in February 2003--- so not many theme parks open. Anyhow, since then I've noticed them almost every trip here or there.

We also saw armed police at the entrances to the park...This was in August..

Disney does not release info on secuirty within the park. I can understand why... you don't want people with bad ideas knowing what could happen so they can try to defeat it.

Carol, that is what I thought. However I am thought maybe someone might have seen the security in action and know the answer.

Thanks for the responses.

Disney now has Orange County police on the grounds at all times. I believe 16 officers at a time are doing a detail around the parks and resorts.

Since Disney security is basically useless, I think its a great idea that they have the OC officers within easy reach.

Remember when that guy tried to set his shoes on fire on the plane. Regular, unarmed people stopped him. While I am happy to see armed officers at the gate, I don't feel that unarmed security in the parks is "useless." More eyes to look out for suspicious activity can only help IMO.

Disney security consists of MUCH more than just the ones you see in costume in the parks. There are undercover security guards of several different levels all over Disney property watching for all kinds of things.
