Disney Security .... It's not really that bad

Going through the security doesn't bother me. I am, however, more afraid at park entrances because there is a congestion.

Which is why I think they need multiple security entrances to help spread out the crowds. I wish that there was a way for guests that stay on property could have their own security entrance.

i don't think it's bad. I just think it's ineffective. If they were really concerned about security, everyone would be going through the metal detectors.

I do have to say that we went right after the Pulse shootings, and I saw police cars, uniformed police and k-9s out and about around park entrances. Before, I would see maybe one identifiable law enforcement person.
I think that is a bigger deterrent to would be attackers at a park entrance. A potential shooter would KNOW that there are several people around that can stop him in seconds. (And yes, I know there are supposedly masses of plain clothes security, but someone won't be deterred by what they don't see)

No it won't scare a potential terrorist that plans on a suicide attack, all you need to do is load up a stroller with explosives and nails and just stroll near the security entrance and boom, it's the world we live in now.

I am all for security but my issue with the security at WDW is the whole "random selection" thing. I feel that, like at universal studios, everyone should go through a security check. I really think Disney should beef up their amount of metal detectors and have the process go smoothly.

Now days a lot of people are afraid of being accused of racial profiling. So how many times do security guards allow someone through without metal detection, for fear of being labeled a racist? If everyone went through metal detectors, this problem would be solved.

I also think Disney needs to put more people on the security checkpoints at peak times so that the bottle neck isn't as enormous.

I think my feelings are the opposite of many in that I don't think it would be better to have everybody go through the metal detectors, but rather I feel that the metal detectors are not necessary at all. It is all security theater (even if they made 100% of people go through the metal detectors). The best security is to have trained personal watching people, talking to guests, and quietly intercepting someone in the extremely rare case it is warranted. Bag check is not so much intended to catch every little item in someones bag (how could they with how quickly they do it?), but an opportunity for security to engage with the guests and feel them out.

It is simply unlikely that anyone with ill intent is sneaking a weapon into a Disney Park. I felt safe there before the metal detectors went into use and would continue to feel safe if they didn't use them.

It would not stop something like that. There are also biological weapons (weaponized smallpox, etc) that it would not stop. They could fly a plane into Disney.

It could deter many of the mass shooters who have chosen places like elementary schools, night clubs with one armed law enforcement, etc. Even if it does not deter them and they are suicidal, it would reduce casualties. For many of the incidents that have happened in this country, law enforcement response time was critical to reducing casualties.

Actual security doesn't bother me. Everyone going through the metal detectors, wouldn't bother me. Every single pocket having to be emptied, not a problem.

At Disneyland, everyone went through the metal detectors and it was quick and painless. I don't think it's fool proof, and I think having the undercover security watching everything is definitely a HUGE help, but I still think it adds to the level of security. Between bag check and the metal detectors I feel pretty secure in a Disney park.

Honestly, I wish they had checks at Disney Springs as well. I might get flamed for that statement but there you go :-D

Why? We aren't officials from Disney, and what we are talking about here is public knowledge. It doesn't take a genius to go to the park entrance and observe what is going on. Anyone planning something will learn more doing that then they will checking out the DIS.
We aren't giving them ideas they haven't already had.

I think its all security theater, and the truth is if someone is hell bent on mass murder at a Disney park they will just do whatever they can to achieve that. Like others have said, they don't need to even enter the park, all they need to do is show up at the gate. There are plenty of people waiting there to get in.

It will continue to be ineffective as long as:
1.- Not everyone goes through the metal detectors
2.-Nocheckpoints at the TTC
3.-No check points Disney Springs
4.- CM entrances don't have metal detectors installed
5.- 3rd parties and trucks that enter the property are not checked
A bad person will find a way to do harm, and yes, the theater might make some double think it but someone with true evil intent will find a way.
I've always felt safe at WDW, and I'm a local who has been going to the parks for 18 years, do I feel safer with metal detectors? no. I don't remember hearing of any guns being brought t the parks pre metal detectors and I am sure there have been guns found and the people dealt with. There has always been plain clothes security inside and outside the parks. And they are the ones that basically keep everyone safe. The recent inclusion of more uniformed security and even Orange Co. police presence just gives everyone a bit more of peace of mind

I am all for security checks. It's all about keeping everyone as safe as possible. It's like at the airport some people throwing a fit because they are chosen for extra screening. I don't get it.

Cooperate with security and it's really a very simple and smooth process. Most TSA and security officers that I have encountered have been very polite and professional.

From what I understand they are also purposely slowing down the line so that the real security people can look everyone over. You don't think all of Disney's security measures are out in the open for people to see, do you? Just like any place of business much of the security is behind the scenes, where people can't look it over to find ways around it.

I am glad they are spending a little more time going through security...I always felt that they should have been doing a little more for a while (that's just me). And this year I knew they would probably be a little more thorough so I have planned ahead and found a bag with minimal zippers/pockets/things to open. Our family always tries to arrive well before opening to factor in security, and always always always have bags open and ready by the time it is our turn.
