My fiance and I had a long planned trip to New York for this weekend. Only it never happened....
We were due to leave out of Tampa at 7am, only to get a phone call at 4:30 am, on our way to the airport mind you, that our flight had been cancelled and the only other flight available left at 7pm. Problem #1 - we had theater tickets for an 8pm show that now would go to waste.
After several minutes trying to figure out what to do, we decided to continue on the trip as planned and to kill time we would head to Disney for the day. Being AP holders came in handy here
We spent the day at MK and lounging around the Contemporary before heading off to the airport.
Upon arriving in Tampa we learned that our 7pm flight was now delayed until 9pm. Well since the day was already lost, this wasnt that huge of a deal. Flight finally leaves at 9:30, only to have the captain come on the PA system and say "ladies and gentlemen we have to return to Tampa, we have a mechanical issue with the aircraft." By the time we are off the plane it is 10:30 and the gate agent informs everyone that the flight is now cancelled and that it would be near impossible to get on a flight tomorrow as they are completely booked with the July 4th holiday and "maybe" we would get out Saturday! Problems #2 and #3 - We had Yankees tickets for Friday, and I had purchased additional theater tickets for Saturday.
Now out about $500 we decide it is not worth it to potentially waste an entire weekend in the airport, and throw in the towel. Our solution - lets head to Disney.
We are new DVC and our first trip home wasnt planned until next week, so it was a nice suprise to get to spend the weekend at our home resort, SSR. We had a great room in Congress Park overlooking DTD, and we were able to check in at 11am which was great since we were up till 3am the night before.
Spent the following days at MGM and AK, and did something I hadnt done since I was a kid - Rented a Searacer boat! Had an amazing dinner at Narcoossee's on Saturday, and then headed to Pleasure Island.
As stressed and sad as we were to miss our trip to New York, by Sunday we both had almost forgot that we werent even supposed to be at Disney. The place has the uncanny ability to make you forget all else that otherwise weighs you down. And therefore, Disney saved the day, and our weekend, again!
