Disney Riviera Resort

What should get have added in your view? What does GF need to satisfy that clientele?

Nothing...but amenities ARE the problem at Caribbean. They don't have them like the poly or the grand or even wilderness lodge. And that's why this is off the grid.

People are gonna fawn over the restaurant...but it's not a cruise ship...how much use/repeat stays is that gonna generate? I think its gonna be booked solid by the old disneyana type fanatics...

The "we always do it our first night in THE WORLD" type nuts.

Agree re CBR. Just wondering why you mention GF didn't add anything when it didn't need to...

Timeshare a few minutes from Disneyland, and one in Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego while I worked there.

Why not just spit it out instead of 20 questions? ;) Your statement wasn't (isn't) clear to me which is why I asked.

1) How is it that Disney was NOT making $$$ in the sale, and 2) how will doing this now "eat away at the foundation over time"?

Bs aside...dvc is 90% about packing people into the wdw compound...where they control all the purchasing and reap all the profits. That's the difference and why the original dvc was sold with more balance.

They doubled the price in 10 years and a lot of that was housing bubble econmics...now will they double it again? That's gonna kill the golden goose sooner than later.

I think you're getting ahead of this. Can they cross a line here? Yes. Doesn't look like they're nearly there yet or we wouldn't be seeing all this expansion.

I'm still skeptical but curious about DRR. As people who own a lot of points, we certainly care if they mishandle this in a big way going forward. I just don't see that YET.

Because tjkraz was giving them credit for "recent" developments...but the fact is they really had little "development" to do. Saratoga required way more effort (so did kidani) and caribbean has little to use to make it a $25,000 investment.

It will require a lot more effort and a lot more employees to make this thing worth it.

Gotcha'. Agreed.

I think they are softer now than most would imagine. These new units don't fly off the shelves the way I would expect...resales abound...

...but management doesn't care...they won't be around when it becomes stale and overpriced.

Drill, baby, drill

I have every expectation that will be the case. Again, this isn't Caribbean Beach Villas. It's not an add-on to a moderate. It's conceived as an entirely separate destination...which just happens to be on land reclaimed from CBR. When complete, the proximity between Riviera and CBR will be similar to the (also separate) Beach Club and BoardWalk resorts.

Unless we find out otherwise, there's every reason to think that Riviera will have its own dining, shops, recreation and transportation. We already know riviera will have its own gondola load station separate from CBR's. We know it will have at least one TS restaurant. I don't think it's a stretch to assume there will be a QS dining option and some sort of pool.

Guests shouldn't be required to walk over to CBR for much, if anything. (Primary things that come to mind would be marina, playground(s), bike rentals, sports courts...such little-used amenities may not be duplicated at Riviera, similar to how BW doesn't have a marina and BC doesn't rent Surrey bikes.) But the close proximity of CBR means that Riviera guests will have even more options for dining, shopping, pool hopping, etc.
And they can go to boardwalk for their amenities....

DVC is a nice way to get cash quickly but it feels like such a short-term way to do so. I suspect that a few of these resorts would have had better occupancy if they weren't just so darn over-priced!

I wonder if going for those less desirable DVC spots might be something to consider in the future...
My thing with DVC is the "less desireable" end up being fine. I'm not a fan of Saratoga but it's a fine resort that now has really easy access to a refreshed and appealing springs.

Old Key West is a steal no two ways about it. Huge rooms, quiet location, and the transport is good. I've had fun trips at BLT and boardwalk before, but in my view the perks offered at those hotels are overstated in the big picture because you can get a good bang for your buck elsewhere

Your also just sayin:

I don't worry about sales demand...cause people leave their brains at home when they buy from Disney...

displacement into the other DVCs...that's what I'm afraid of now...in pre construction...

I agree which is why I plan to keep an eye on these resorts. I wouldn't mind staying at either one and would actually prefer them to a few other DVC locations including CBR.

Really afraid? Or another just sayin.

What would you prefer they price this at, and studio points per night?

Just going with sig dining on top with Fireworks views, main floor counter service, fireworks views from each side, a few min gondola to EPCOT and F&W etc, a few min gondola ride to Star Wars Land and DHS, a few minute gondola ride to the BW, and a decent pool maybe like AKV.
