Disney rewards card question

I thought you were able to have 2 rewards cards at once? Am I mistaken? I am going to WDW in October and my rewards card expires Dec 2010. I wanted to request a new one so I could put the points on that as I don't want unused points from this trip to expire. So I was hoping to get an additional card and put the points on that. When I called I was told they could send me a new card but it would have the same expiration date. If I go online it looks like it would let me get a rewards card. I'm just not sure if I'm supposed to. I know I can transfer points over the phone as needed but just figured it'd be easier to get a newer card and put my points on that.

I recently ordered a new rewards card for the same reason. My new one came in about a week, and it has an expiration date of 12/2011. I ordered it online.

Thanks for posting this. We're going in December and we currently have a card dated 12/10. I also wanted to get a new one to save any points we may not use (unlikely but possible ;)).

I'm sure I've read this before, but do the cards expire on December 31st? I was nervous with the 12/10 not including a day in the date.

From Chase terms:

Disney Rewards Redemption Cards may not be exchanged for or substituted with other rewards certificates, rewards cards or Disney Rewards Redemption Cards regardless of value or expiration date.

I'm pretty sure it will expire at the end of the December because they all seem to expire at the end of the next calendar year. Also a credit card is valid through the month not until the month normally. If you order one now, it should be good until 12/2011.

I'd say if you have rewards dollars on a card that is about to expire, spend them all while you are on the trip. If you have rewards that you can't use, you could buy a park ticket to use for your next trip so you don't lose them and then upgrade that ticket as needed next time.

And you were able to do this before the other rewards card expired right? You just have to order it like it's your first rewards card and put the minimum 20 points on it correct?

We've definitely been able to order a new card while we still had a card that hadn't expired yet - but I am fairly certain that the old card had no value on it at all.

Do they still have the kiosk at DTD where you can get a new rewards card? I thought people on here used to be able to go and get their rewards cards and transfer points from their account somewhere in DTD.

You can get it done at Guest Relations at DTD, at least on the Marketplace side.

Yes, we've done this. You can definitely have two cards at once.

Here's my two thoughts.

Use the card you currently have but only transfer an amount that you are sure you can use this trip. You can add more at any time by phone, if you use them up.

If you do order another one online, hoping that it will be valid 1 more year, only load the minimum dollars neccesary. Then when it arrives you can add more when you see the expiration date.

I had the same dilemma. I just ordered a new card and put all of my points on the new one when I ordered. I didn't want to have to use all of my points or lose them by 12/2010. With free dining I find that we spend a lot less than we used to and I was afraid of losing those hard earned points.

Yeah thanks. That is what I wound up doing. I went online and ordered one but only put the minimum on it. If I get another card with the same expiration date at least I know I'll use up that amount. And I'll transfer my points as needed via phone in the parks. Was just figuring a later expiration date would make it a little easier. Thanks for all the help!

For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with Chase and I was told that a Rewards Redemption card with an expiration date of 12/10 will expire on 12/28/10. Pretty tricky, Chase!

If they tried to pull that, they might have legal issues. I don't see how they could have any legal standing to have it expire on that date if that date isn't specifically listed as the expiration date. It is common knowledge that a "MM/YY" expiration refers to the last day of that month being the last valid day.

It isn't even a weekend - it's a Tuesday. I could see a bank arguing that a Sunday wouldn't count...

It's not a kiosk - it's Guest Relations. I have done it there before (the one near Ghiradelli). I also did it about 2 weeks ago at Guest Relations in MK.
