Disney Reward Visa

JMO, but I think it would take a while to rack up enough points to pay for an entire vacation. They accru pretty slowly unless they're running a bonus deal.

Agreed...you essentially have to spend $100 in order to receive $1 Disney reward dollar.

I have been using the Disney Visa over the past two years and I have accumulated almost $1,400 reward dollars. Every big purchase (auto, medical, other trip, etc) was financed with my card with the balance paid off each month. Those reward dollars will not come close to covering my trip as my wife and I have elected to pick up the tab for six of our family members. This will be their first trip to WDW. :thumbsup2

I have been told that canceling credit cards also can lower your credit rating.

As someone who works for a major Bank I can tell you it depends...

There are some individuals where closing a credit card(s) will help their rating, particularly if those individuals possess numerous credit lines with high balances.

But if you have strong/good credit, then closing a credit card should not tank your FICO. You are not going to go from a FICO score of 750 to 599 because you closed a credit card.

My hubby was listed as a signer on my account and we tried to get him his own account to get the $200 gift card, but he was denied for lack of credit. Funny thing is...he is the only one with a job!:rotfl: My card has a balance of over $3000 every month which we pay off 100% each month. He makes well over 100,000/year, yet he couldn't get his own card! Go figure!:confused3
We did the same thing and initially my DH got a denial too. They denied based on too many credit requests. I pulled both our credit reports and we had exactly ZERO credit requests except for theirs. We both have totally perfect credit. I think they are just stingy with the $200 reward offer. I wrote a letter complaining and enclosed a copy of the credit report and a few days later my DH got the card in the mail. I haven't worked for 10 years now yet I have a higher credit limit on my Disney Visa :rotfl2: If you really want the $200 pull his free credit report and send in a letter. I'm assuming he must be on your car, mortgage, phone bill something....

One of the problems with credit bureaus is that there are instances where the different credit bureau companies have different information. One credit bureau may have credit inquiries that another credit bureau does not have. If Chase subscribes to Experian, and you wound up securing your credit report from Equifax there could be some differences in the accounts & inquiries reported. Obviously, in a perfect world the Credit Bureau companies would all have the same information but we know that is not the case. That's why you see all of these offers made to consumers to pull a "summary" credit report that has the FICO scores from all the major credit bureau companies.

By the way, in today's environment 1-2 inquiries for credit in a 3-6 month period may lead to a denial of credit based on "too many credit inquiries".

If I already have one and am going to use my $200 towards my upcoming vacation - can my daughter get one and use the $200 on her's too. The thing is. I reserved 2 rooms. One for me and one for her but I'm the one who reserved them and is paying them off. Can we use both $200 towards our vacation??

yes you can... you can even use your "aunt mary's" visa rewards, even if she's not traveling w/you at all!

We have had my husbands card for about 5 years. Although we do not use it for everything we do use it ALOT! We have $573 so far after all those years. You would have to spend lots. I am pretty sure but I believe you get 1 Disney dollar for every $100 spent. Balance transfers are not included. Ultimately you would get $10 Disney dollars for every $1000 spent. $100 for every $10000 ect

i just got this offer in the mail and signed up because we are going in september and im not gonna say no to $200 gift card to spend on my trip!

i have been using my discover card for everything and plan on cashing out all the cash back $ i have racked up and getting them put on a gift card to use for food and other stuff while we are there!

Check your card and redeem dates online
You only have so much time to redeem the points before they expire

It will say something like you have 500 points
30 of which expire on 1/1/12
46 of which expire on 2/1/12
And so on

I assume this offer has a unique code to call, right? I NEVER get any offers from Disney. Only once I got a pin for the same deal that I had a reservation for already, like a joke.

I do have the card (chart member) but DSis and DW would benefit from this.

Our reward point statements usually have something like you wrote. I called 2 days ago and requested a card for $543. I believe the points are good for 5 years then you loose per month. When I ordered the card they said the card is good till 12/2012. I am going in September and this $543 plus the $200 I am getting for opening my own will almost pay for the entire dining plan for 3 children and 2 adults for 5 nights. Totally worth it in my opinion.

It's the best one I've seen..Am I the only one who thinks $200 to open an account after 1st use is an awesome deal?!

We thought it was awesome too. My mom & I each got a card last year before our trip. That $400 (about 1/2 our trip) was sweet!!

While I have a Disney Visa I also have a Visa Signature card that earns WAY more in rewards. I got $600 cash back last year just from charging groceries, gas, and using it for online purchases. I'd have gotten back very little if I'd used the Disney Visa instead. Since I don't carry a balance, I prefer to use that card as much as possible and earn the rewards. The only time I use my Disney Visa is when they have an extra rewards earning period, otherwise I just don't think it's worth it. I can certainly see why Disney Visa is stopping someone from opening new accounts just to get the GC- their motivation for offering it is to get new customers, not to reward ones who already have a card.---Kathy
