We are cruising April 9. I haven't asked for my reward card yet because DH hit a deer last week and I told him that we could get more Disney Dollars for our trip if we charged it!! :)

My question is.....I don't want to ask for my card until these points have posted to my card. That would mean waiting for my March statement to close, (around the 9th).

Does it usually take about two weeks for the cards to get here? Or is it longer?? I think I would have about 4 weeks for it to get to me. Is that cutting it too close?

Thanks! :wave2:

After you get the card you can add points to it. Just remember that they are use or lose. I think the car is only good for 1 year. It took me about 2 weekes to get the card.

Thanks for reminding me. We are taking the April 23rd Magic and I meant to order our card.

I plan to order the card now (like right after I'm done typing this) and call right before we leave to add any points we rack up in the mean time.

It's funny how a disney card can put an upside on something bad. Honey, we wrecked car but at least the points from getting it repairs will cover enough drinks with umbrellas that we'll forget all about it on the cruise.

Yes, a sad thing happened, but WOO HOO....more disney $$. He brought his car home at 5:30 AM, 10 minutes after leaving the house to show me that he had hit a deer. The only thing I could say is, "find a place that takes VISA!!! :rotfl: !!"

How do they add it to the card? If I order it now, then by the time we cruise, we should have another 15 - 20 $$ to add to it. If I have the card in my possession, how do they add it to it??? I suppose it is just some computer thing!

I just ordered my card (like I said I would) and in doing so was reminded of a few things.

First, you need to transfer at least 20 reward dollars in order to get your card the first time. After you have the card you can transfer any amount over 10 rewards to your card at any time.

The lesson here is, if you think that your next statement is going to provide you with less than 10 reward dollars (so, you spent less than $1000 on the card) then you will probably want to leave a few reward dollars in the account so that you'll be able to transfer the full amount before your cruise.

An example, if you currently have 50 reward dollar in your account. You're not sure if you are going to have at least 10 from your next statement. So, in order to get the card you could transfer 40 reward dollars. Then after your next statement posts (we'll say you receive 7 reward dollar that month) you can go online and transfer the 17 you have left right before your cruise.

I hope that make sense. If you use your card for absolutely everything you can (like us) it's probably not even an issue. :)

A Rewards Card ordered now should not expire until December, 2006. You can transfer your reward dollars to an existing card through the Bank One website, or by phone.

Okay, let's see if I have this right.........I can go online today and request my card. Which I will empty the accout. Then after we get the car fixed, I can call back and tell them to add the other 15 - 20 dollars to my card?! Does that sound right. As long as I have 10 or over, they will transfer them to my card that I will have in my possession?? :earseek:

Thanks

Correct! My card expires 12/05, but my points don't. So save them up and transfer them when you need them. I just do it online. I'm sure they send you a new card before it expires.

Be careful about that. I wouldn't transfer any rewards to an existing card unless I was CERTAIN I would use those $$$ before expiration. If there is any question about that, I'd order a new card.

I have almost enough to cover my tips, so I will be using ALL of my card.

Thanks for all the words of wisdom :grouphug:

Yes...I will use all of mine up on this card on our cruise, and then save them up and not transfer them again til a new card comes or I need them.

Glad you all reminded me...I just transfered over a bunch of Disney $$'s to my card too. Thanks Pppiglet for mentioning that you do so online, this is what I had to do because the guy at the 1-800# wasn't going to do it for me... I am not the "primary card holder."
I hate being treated like a second class citizen because my DH is the wage earner...I take care of all business aspects of our lives and he is grateful for it, but when credit card companies won't help you because you are only and "authorized user!" Arrggg... Just because I gave up my career for to raise my own kids.... whoa...guess I may be taking this thread into another direction! It just hit a nerve!
Thank you Disney for offering Disney dollar rewards! It will help quell the shock of the bill from onboard charges at the end of the cruise.

You can transfer the points after that statement closes. I suppose you could do the transfer onboard in the internet cafe if you're already sailing at that time! :rotfl:

As someone who has an expired rewards card I thought it important to point out that they DO NOT automatically send you another card when your rewards card expires. And any points that are on your card when it expires are GONE. They do not transfer to a new rewards card automatically. In fact, you have to request a new rewards card (as I just did).

Thanks for mentioning your trouble getting the points transferred. I'm getting ready to do just that, and I'd get the same treatment because I'm not the primary cardholder. You just saved me some time and a serious PITA.

Off topic, I agree with you about such treatment. And it isn't just CC companies. I take care of all our accounts but they will only talk to DH. Usually I call, put him on the phone to authorize them to talk to me, and then conduct my business.

Not to totally derail this thread because I normally hate when that happens.

We had the same problem at the bank. We make almost equal money but it just so happens that we started putting “our” money in “his” (which became “our”) bank account after getting married since for the most part any checks were made out to mr. and mrs ‘his name”.

Anyway, I tried to change our address and was told that I couldn’t because I was the joint account holder and not the primary. We actually went to the bank, together, and tried to make us both primaries on the account but after much arguing with the bank we weren’t able to. They didn’t seem to see why it was a problem. I’m just glad that hubby did.

It’s a mixed bag with who’s the primary on what. Basically whoever had time to call to sign up for X is the primary. According to my mom society has come a long way. She said when she first got married you had to have your husband’s signature (permission) to get a credit card.

Back on track.... I bought lunch for everyone at work today (and am getting reimbursed) on my rewards card. I just love those "free" points. :goodvibes

As to the OT issue, you might consider applying for a credit card in your own name, with DH as co-applicant. Also, putting some of your utilities in your own name. Never a bad idea for a woman to be building up her own credit rating, just in case.

As a follow up...

I went online to request my card the afternoon of Februrary 14th and I received it yesterday (February 22), a week and a day from the time I sent for it.

I'm not sure how it works to get the rewards card or transfer reward dollars but...I'm the primary card holder and DH is an authorized user but the card is in my name (I just had to have the member since Day 1 thing). But, I have NEVER been the one to call to order the rewards card or transfer reward dollars. I'm not sure if DH did it online or what but he has always been the one to do it.
