Disney Retirement Villages?

OK, this isn't technically a DVC topic but I think we might be a good target group for this idea:

Having just explored the world of senior living and retirements venues for in-laws, then left for a DVC vacation, we came to the conclusion that Disney should get into the retirement community business. They already have prototypes with the DVC properties - would probably want to change the mix of units and need to affiliate with national health care chain. Most of the larger retirement communities have programs where you buy in based on the size of your unit, pay monthly or annual fees, and then are guaranteed continuing care through assisted living and nursing home, if needed.

How many of you out there would love to retire to a Disney home?

I think some form of this may actually be a good idea.

They have DVC and Celebration. Maybe something a little cheaper than Celebration. They certainly know how to run a planned community.

Have they ever tried anything like this before?

We would love this! We always joke about retiring to Disney World. Of course, in the twenty years we have until we retire, who know what will happen with our favorite place on earth! But this is a great idea.

Sounds like something they should seriously consider for Celebration...an "active adult village".

I thought I read somewhere here, that there is another type of community/developemnet going in around Celebration are that is something like you mention.

I forgot the name of it, but it was a community of homes, retirment/seasonal vacation homes? I don't recall, but it was a development other thatn Celebration and I am not sure if Disney had their mitts in it.

Maybe someone else has some better info.......

Ritz-Carlton is definitely building timeshares as part of their development project in Celebration, didn't know about the active adult community part though--although it makes sense as RC is trying to get a larger market share in that segment.

OMG would that be awesome!!!

And how about if we had the option of trading in our DVC points to pay for part of it? ;)

I do love your way of thinking, and from the response to this post so far, I doubt that there would be any problem with sales!

The property I was talking about was a community, possibly gated, of homes and you would purchase outright, it would be your own deeded land and home for you to do with as you please (according to convenants). But a Home none the less.

any info out there on this?

Retired and ready to move in! All we need is the where & when?

Although I'm not-quite retired yet, I would definitely be up for buying into this. Then when DH and I DO retire, I can get my job at WDW. Although I'm still trying to figure out which one I want.

I'm with you Nancy! Although I know the job I want. I want to be Goofy!

What a great idea. Then I could spend more time at WDW and use my DVC points to take a 'quick' trip. And let the relatives use the retirement home when they visit! Oh the possibilities are exciting! :bounce:
How do we get this retirement thing going? Please can we sign up now?

4 years and counting down.........

I would give it a good look…I am retired and looking for that place my wife and I can agree upon.

How about a Disney "double-wide" community....just kidding. As you can see fro my counter below, i cant wait to retire to disney. In fact i already have my disney job picked out ( guy who ties boat up on the water shuttle)....celebration is ridiculously priced, and is way to Stepford for me...I think orlando and sorrounding areas have plenty of great places to retire to, especially for people on a budget...I am looking to sell my home, and even swap it for something close to disney and golf...I plan on spending every penny I can make and leaving my kids with enough money to purchas a special pine box...but that is not before using every last point!!!!!!!!!

Sounds wonderful, but coudl you imagine how expensive it woudl eb through Disney? Noen of these places are cheap, throw Disney into the mix and wow...
Going into a retirement community is one thing, but assisted living I could not see Disney venture into...
Although, you can make quite a pretty penny.
