Can't decide which resort to go to this year. We have managed to narrow it down to a couple, Saratoga springs or Old Key West. Wilderness Lodge is proving to be a little out of our budget. We like to visit Downtown in the evenings and were wondering which is closest, possibly walking distance. In addition are there good transport links to the other theme parks? We will have our 12 year old son with us who is very active so need to ensure there is plenty for him to do as well. The boss, a.k.a. wife, has been asking about rooms having balconies or patios. Anyone got any advice on these queries please?:confused3

You can walk to DTD from SSR - but not from OKW. I'm afraid that's all the advice I can give ;)

SSR definitely the closest as the last PO said. Very easy to walk from SSR, we did when we stayed there. OKW has a boat service to DDT, but haven't stayed there so can’t comment on the time it takes. We stayed in the Congress Park section of SSR which was very convenient for walking (around 10-15 minutes to DDT)

yep if you want to have DTD as a nice walk in the evening its SSR,and congress park the closest 10-15min.
Yes you can walk to DTD from OKW but first you have to walk through the golf course then SSR can take around 1 hour, and in heat

Boat from OKW takes about 20mins and drops you at the pleasure Island section of DTD. Its a nice ride there and back. There are also buses. They do not recomend walking from OKW to DTD and back in the dark due to the path not being lit.

Overall we found the buses from OKW to all the parks and back to be great. Epcot we did find was more of a wait for some reason.

OKW is a lovely resort with a nice relaxed feel. The rooms are large and have a patio or balcony. Studio while a large room would not give you and your son much privacy but a 1 bedroom has a pull out in the living room. Friends of ours stayed in a 2 bedroom last year and it is massive. Full kitchen in the one and two beds only a kitchenette (sp) in the studio

Set around the golf course so you get some nice views. Pool area has lots of activities and there are two arcades on site as well.

Only let down was the small counter service place but it was not a big issue for us and we only ate there a couple of times. Food we did have was your typical counter service stuff.

We loved OKW so much that we are going back this year.

SSR has two feature pools with slides now.

The rooms all have a patio/balcony.

You can walk to DTD or get the boat which is a short ride or catch the bus :thumbsup2 Bus journey times to the parks aren't bad.

Studios have one queen bed plus sleeper sofa and a kitchenette. One bedrooms have a king bed plus sleeper sofa in the living room.

Being DVC members we have dealt with the sleeper sofa for a few years now and never find it a problem - they take a matter of seconds to pull out and throw pillows on (sheets are on when folded) when we get in.
