Disney Resort worthwhile?

Staying at DLH andGC have provided us with that same Disney cocoon that we experience at WDW. Staying at the DL hotels you don't see Denny's and the rest of the commercialism you'd see at a good neighbor hotel across the street. That makes it worth it to us.

THIS is what I was loioking for:thumbsup2. Do DLR Hotels offer the cocoon of disney magic that will just "complete" the trip. The price is what always keeps us away from it but I am willing to pay that extra cash or shorten the trip to make it "better".

It definitely does for me. That's what makes it worth the money for my family.

Most definitely, yes!! Agreed.

I too was shocked at the DL Hotel prices vs the options (and discounts) available at WDW.... I am looking at a few good neighbor hotels... but I am so used to the magic pixie dust bubble that is on-site at WDW that I would hate to get all the way to Disneyland (it is really far for us) and be disappointed. We're aiming for the half-marathon in August 2014....

I'll make the following statement about staying on property; IF you go to DL and attend the parks "Commando" style ie; in line every morning for rope drop and stay in the parks until closing. Then no, I would not recommend the onsite hotels.:sad2:
IF you use the DLHs as the resort properties they are ie; use the pools, hot-tubs, and waterslides. Make use of the restaurants, gift shops, coffee shops, character meals, character meet n greets, workout facility, the Disney art work in the lobbies, the hotel in house tv channels that guide you through the park rides, restaurants, gift shops, and events, etc. Then yes, it is worth it to stay at one of the DLHs. Also by staying at one of the DLHs you never leave the "BUBBLE" and you get early entry:dance3: As far as the walk goes from PPH or the DLH, it is a piece of cake. 10 minutes or so or ride the monorail. Years ago, used to go for an invigorating five mile run before breakfast everyday. 10 minute walk to the main gate is a piece of cake:cool1:
We have stayed offsite three times and did not like it. We now stay OnSite at a DLH or we do not go. :grouphug:

I feel like a spolied little kid "needing" to be all disney all the time to make my trip perfect... but when I only have one vacation every year to rewind from the stresses of military life I just want to forget about everything. Thats why we love disney. I really do forget about "my worries and my strife" in the park. So if the hotels are as great as they are made out to be, I may never go back to a good neighbor again lol!

I feel the same way. We go once a yr and I want all Disney when I go.

With Carsland, and now the EMH at DCA as well as DL - I wonder if this has significantly boosted on site reservations - especially for people staying shorter stays where time is money quite literally and they want those extra hours to "get er done!" :)

The Grand was $350 per night more than BWPPI for our trip next week. Times that by 4 nights and I would probably be nitpicking at everything. I loved the grand when we stayed there and easily would pay $125/night more than a good neighbor hotel, but I just cannot get that much out of a hotel. My rate for BWPPI is $120 so I think I would happily pay double to stay onsite. Everyone is different.

We have pretty much always stayed offsite except for once at DL Hotel many years ago. Then last year we stayed at GCH and were spoiled forever. We returned again the same year. It is worth everything to me to just walk out the door and be right there in CA. Or DTD. You can go back for a rest at anytime, mornings are wonderful with not many in the park. When everyone else is tired or swimming I can just go right out and wander around at my leasure. I love the GCH. I think it is worth it 100%. IMHO.

The folks over at Touring Plans just posted a blog entry listing 10 reasons to stay at the DL Resort:

http://blog.touringplans.com/2013/03/15/10-reasons-to-stay-onsite-at-disneyland/

Thanks for the link! Very informative article if you are sitting on the fence about onsite resorts. Cars Land was AMAZING. We were there for the grand opening (yes there were people who stood in line for 14 hours for 1 ride that day... we were lucky enough to snag a fast pass!) and I have to say it is insane how much you feel like you are actually IN radiator springs. Disneyland trips should be made to see this one land alone.
