Some of you may have seen this already, but thought I would share it for those that have not.

Last night I received a survey invitation from Disney regarding our stay at BCV two weeks ago. It was a pretty standard survey, asking questions about the room, resort, restaurants, etc. I took almost an hour to fill it out, but it was worth it to give my feedback, both good and bad (but mostly good!) about the resort.

The interesting part was at the end. They asked if I was a DVC member. I am, and chose yes. They had the following question (almost verbatim):

Would you be interested in purchasing any of the following special DVC-member discounted theme park tickets in the future:

a) 5 park days per year (with hopping) for 5 years
b) 7 park days per year (with hopping) for 5 years
c) 7 park days per year (with hopping) for 7 years
d) I am not interested in any of these

I went with option c. As a follow up, they then asked: "Would you be interested in the ability to add 1 or 2 water park days at no additional charge?" I stated yes to that one.

Not sure how serious to take such questions, but it is encouraging to know that they are at least considering such options for DVC members.

I'm curious which of these options you all would choose :)

I received that survey also. I responded that I was not interested in any of the options. I did explain that I always get an Annual Pass.

I never got the survey so I responded here. I picked the 7 park days for 5 years and don't ask me why, I am not sure myself...smjj

I didn't get the survey either but since I am a Floridian and live a short distance (45 minutes) to Disney I have an annual pass. 15 years and counting!

I guess I dont fully understand the question and options. What would be the value or benefit for only get a 5 or 7 day hopper for that many of years? Would it be a locked in price? Would you be able to pay annually?

So for now my answer would be no as I see the discounted Annual pass as being a better value for multiple trips in a year.

I'm not really sure. They didn't provide anything in the way of an explanation, so I'm not sure exactly how it work. My assumption is that you would pay some set price to receive the discounted tickets just for that length of time.

I agree that the annual pass is better if you are staying for more than 8 or 9 days. But for my family, we are at the point where we can only come for 6 or 7 days per year (at least for now!) I would definitely like to see them offer these as an additional option for us and others in the same boat.

But I'm eagerly working towards being able to do the annual pass thing and do a couple trips per year, so I definitely don't want them to do this instead of the annual pass discount.:thumbsup2

I would much rather have an more open ended use option, since our travel plans don't necessarily call for us to spend exactly 5, 7 or any specific amount of days per year in the parks. For example, this year we are going for 9 days; next year, if we go at all, it will probably be a quick 3-4 day trip.

Why not lump it all together, instead of 5 park visits per year over 5 years, how about just 25 park visits over 5 years to be used whenever? Or, instead of 7 visits over 7 years, how about 49 (or round up to 50) park visits over 7 years?

So:
5 years, 25 visits w/ hopping
5 years, 35 visits w/ hopping
7 years, 35 visits w/ hopping
7 years, 49 visits, w/ hopping

I don't see how this would hurt. In fact, it would probably help them b/c people would not get any additional park time versus the options they provide but might use up all their park days in less than the allotted time and therefore have to buy a new pass sooner.

Oooh, I like your idea better. I agree. My only fear with their stated option is that I would feel compelled to spend exactly 5 or 7 days in the parks so that I got my money's worth. But your plan is much more flexible :thumbsup2

And if they threw in a handful of water park visits as an add on, even better. I hope someone from Disney reads your suggestion.

If the net effect of the survey was used to eliminate the AP discount ("due to member feedback"), I would choose not interested in any. If the new option was offered in addition to the AP discount, it would be a nice perk for those whose travel plans don't match up well with an AP and of course then it's a no-brainer.

It sounds like a program similar to what DVC offered a few years ago.

You pre-paid at a slightly discounted price for a hopper. I think it was 5 (maybe 7) park days for any 4 years of the next 5 years. This allowed people to skip a year. The program was a flop, and was discontinued.

That stinks that it wasn't popular. I would really like them to have some sort of additional ticket discount besides the annual pass. I wonder why they don't just offer a percentage or flat discount on tickets, like they do with the AP. That way everyone could choose the park tickets they want without being locked in, but still get some perk for being DVC members.

I hope they can come up with something good.

Thanks, I would imagine they think of all these options but who knows. On so many levels, this would make more sense. With a restricted number of park visits per year as determined by their plan, people might have to opt OUT of going to a park if they have an extra day of vacation, but no more park visits for that year. However, if they have a "bank" of park visits, say 35 to use whenever, they might use up 7,8, or more in one trip. And as I said earlier, I would imagine people will use up their visits more quickly than the number of years the pass is good for.

Either way, all I know is that I would be quite interested in a 5 year pass for 25 or 35 park visits to use at my discretion; I would NOT be interested in a 5 year pass with 25 or 35 park visits segmented into a set number per year. I want to decide when I'm going to use the visits, I don't need them deciding for me!

Also this would work better if say yr #2 and 4 they got an AP, the pre paids did not go to waist. I think some buy APs every few yrs.

I think one of the biggest drawbacks to the plan that was offered was paying for the whole thing upfront. With a family, that could be a big chunk of change paying for several years worth of tickets at once. And I really don't see Disney offering a time payment plan. There would be costs involved for them to monitor the program and make sure the plan was paid monthly. Remember, Disney doesn't allow monthly payments for APs, why offer such a plan for hoppers?

I agree that the best plan for most members would be a straight 10% to 15% discount on hoppers. But what would be the advantage for Disney? DVC members staying at the DVC resorts, and using ME, are likely to go the parks anyway. Offering a small discount is not going to increase the number of people in a park, and likely won't increase Disney's bottom line.

I think I'll just take a pencil to the discount if they ever announce it. Even if they allow the visits to be spread across years, buying a non-expiring water park fun and more hopper from UT will provide a lot more flexibility than what was presented in the survey. DVC's price would have to be a lot lower than UT for me to bite.

All of the park hoppers would be nice and even better if they can be upgraded with additional days, a no expiration option or upgrading to an AP.

I voted none of these options because we need more than 7 days per year.

I didn't get this survey from DVC, but if I did, I would vote "not interested" just as I did here. We buy APs and love the AP discount from DVC. Since we prefer to go to the parks at least a part of every day we are at a DVC location, we often will get 28 or more days on each AP. If I took any of the options presented, they would be getting me in there a whole lot less than they do now. That seems to me to be counter productive for them.

Ditto. I think DVC is offering the best discount as it is. By getting us to buy the APs we'll be more likely to come down more often and need to add-on as we run out of points. It's a win-win for them.
