What are the perks that come with staying at a WDW resort? Are they worth the extra $$?

Perks:

* Easy and relatively painless access to the parks, via bus or monorail.

* Complimentary package delivery from the parks to your hotel.

* Creative and sometimes breathtaking theming and decor.

* Outstanding service, in the Disney tradition.

* Good-to-great restaurants on site, and at the nicer hotels, unbeatable room service, too.

* The ability to charge most purchases in the parks to your room account -- which you can check periodically to see how much damage you're doing!

* Access to characters in the morning via the "Character Caravan" that rotates around the resorts on different days.

* Location, location, location. At some resorts, you can walk to the parks, or take a short bus or monorail ride, and be in the center of the action in a matter of minutes. At some, you can even see fireworks from your room. (Huge thrill: waking up early at the Grand Floridian, rolling outa bed, and being on Main Street just 10 minutes later!)

* You can buy separate tickets for E-nights at the Magic Kingdom, which allows you exclusive access to certain rides on certain nights; with limited admission on those nights, the crowds are smaller and the attractions more easily enjoyed.

You might want to do a search. There was one thread that talked about onsite or offsite. There were tons of comments there. Almost all of them said they would definitely stay onsite. Some had stayed off site once and said never again. There might have been a couple that said they would stay off site but I don't recall. If there were they were few and far between. It would be a good thread to read if you are trying to decide between the two.

I agree with all the things Greg K. told you. I had to go to a convention on International way one year and instead of staying at the convention hotel I stayed at the POFQ. Even though I had to cab it back and forth between the two, I would never stay off site. Staying at the PO-FQ was well worth the extra time to go back and forth. There is just something about being in the middle of Disney 24-7. A hotel off site is just a hotel. A Disney hotel is Disney throughout. At the POFQ you get Mickey soap, Mickey shampoo (bring your own though), the theming really takes you away...there is just something about it. Plus all the other things Greg K mentioned.
