Disney Removing Do Not Disturb Signs

says they are doing away with them in favor of "room occupied" signs and that a Disney employee (probably a housekeeper) would be required to knock and enter at least once a day whether the sign is up or not. Hopefully not at 8 am.

Disney has not stated publically the reason for the change, if it's happening, but it is speculated that it's due to the circumstances of the Las Vegas shooting.

DVC members received an email today listing a number of membership “enhancements.” Among them was daily trash service (for those not already aware, DVC rooms booked on points don’t receive daily Mousekeeping), which is being interpreted as being combined with these new daily security checks.

I am so beyond not ok with this. We decline mousekeeping every trip. I just don’t like someone in my room when I’m not there. I keep my own room clean. Now they are telling me that it’s required someone go in my room every day? Sorry, but that’s the last straw in pushing me offsite.

Considering Disney owns the room I'm not sure you have much ground to stand on. Sorry. But yes, they do have a right to enter your room.

So they can now come in with or without your permission? Hmm, offsite is starting to look better and better the closer we get to our trip. Might just pull the trigger and go for it with all these new changes Disney is announcing.
Other locations are going to have the same right

What happens if you just use the deadbolt?

Deadbolt won’t do anything. Security has ways around that. It’s just an extra step.

What if you are sleeping, showering, etc and don't hear the knock on the door?? And then they come right in? Good thing I'll be at the parks from 8am to 9pm everyday! Make sure you use the safe consistently as well...

I think the point of using the deadbolt is to stop Housekeeping or Maintenance from going any further in the room, therefore protecting your privacy during naps, showers, changing and whatevers. It is very helpful as a level of security from a privacy and basic safety point of view.

I don't think security is going to get involved unless they get no response from people inside. Before these locks, used to travel with an alarm I hung on door knob. Jiggle the knob and the alarm was set off, might be time to return to those days.

Ironic that Disney has such a big Housekeeping shortage, yet they want to add this extra layer on to them even in rooms who refuse service. Here many who are glad for the non-service because they don't want staff in their room ...... now are having it forced on them. Not horribly bothered by it because we get Housekeeping and ALWAYS use the deadbolt ........... but this ongoing shift of resort rules is getting pesky.

And honestly if they are now placing security duty on Housekeepers ........ their shortage will increase.

The “daily towel service” and “Room Occupied” vs. asking for Privacy spells one thing.. exercising their ability to come into your room without warning and check for anything suspicious. It is most definitely for security reasons. It just so happens we end up losing a lot of rights and freedoms and privacy in the name of “keeping us safe”.

I get the frustration for those who want maximum privacy when staying in a hotel, but the bottom line is, you're staying on someone else's property, and they have a right to enter the room whenever they choose. Going offsite isn't going to prevent this from happening. Other hotel chains have the same security concerns that Disney does.

Cue the music for "It's a whole new world"-I'm afraid so.

It may be their hotel room but it is my property in the room. I should have the right to be there when they enter without reasonable cause.
