I know everyone says there is enough water.... But how frequently? I'm a sipper. Trying to figure out just what I will need for my first half.

Thanks!

On average plan on a mile and a half for the first half of the race then once a mile. As an approximate go by the half stops have been located near mile points 1.6, 3.5, 4.2, 6.3, 7.1, 9, 10, 11 and 12.5

Here is a mp with approximate locations.

Note the irregular spacing is purely a factor of keeping cups out of the park and ease of supply.

If you feel you need supplemental water, then by all means train and plan on bringing your own bottle. I run with a bottle for the first half of the race. I start by sipping the contents while waiting for the start and it usually empress in the first 4-5 miles.

If it helps ease you mind some, you will not need the sip effect once winter kicks in. The feel for needing to sip is a cooling need as much as hydration. That feeling will diminish.

Thanks for the information!!

If you feel the need for a sip while running through the parks, you can always stop at a drinking fountain. And you can use the real facilities as well - a big improvement over the port-a-potties located throughout the course in my book! :thumbsup2

Ugh, the last water fountain I drank from in MK was not very good. It tasted like the water had not been run through the pipes for months. Funny, it was located just next to a portable cart selling bottled water.

Ohhhhhhh. I detest porta potties. Where are the real restrooms located?!?

For the half, Tomorrowland, then in Liberty Square. The Tomorrowland spot is just after turning left after passing Stitch and it is located on the left. Just across from the Indy Race Track. The Liberty Square one is not as well known and is course left just before Country Bear Jamborie - down the path a bit.

I will scope those out! Thanks

Yep, just as described. After my first Half, I was annoyed with wasting so much time waiting in line for the port-a-potties (which are gross anyway), and then once inside MK, I saw others using the real facilities it was like a big slap on the forehead moment! So for subsequent races, I study the course map against the regular park map and figure out exactly what mile I'll be at before I can use the facilities and I train this way too! I make sure that I drink like a fish the day before my long runs, and then make sure I don't drink too much water prior to or while running the long runs, and then make sure I can actually wait until mile 7 or mile 11 or what-have-you until I use the bathroom. A little OCD, yes, but it makes me happy. :)
