Disney profits up 22% from last year and cant afford to hold onto VMK?

Quite frankly, I think that the complaints from the players also played a big part in this. So many players, myself included, have come on these message boards and written to the black hole to express our frustration and disappointment in the game:

We've complained about every event VMK has run.
We've complained about the crashes.
We've complained about rare items coming back onsale.
We've complained about favoritism in the game.
We've complained about how limiting the hosts games were, and when they started doing teleporter games and quests, we complained about too many host prizes making it into the game.

Why should Disney throw money into a game that they have received so many complaints about?

Actually I am total agreement with you on this. The decision to close came shortly after all that upheaval of the 'biggest quest ever'. I can only imagine the complaints VMK recieved based on what i saw on various boards. it was the first thing I thought of when i read it was closing.
And you know what ~ if that is the reason, I can totally understand it and accept it. At least it would show me that I am more than a number.
Truth be told, I have been thinking about this and we are all biting each other's heads off because we are hurt, and when people are hurt they strike back at each other.
I have loved Disney in it's many forms for many years, I do not really want all the things I love about it to end with VMK. If they would simply come clean as to the REAL reason they were closing and end this specualtion I think many of us would feel much better.

The Magic Died With Walt. The parks still linger some of it but most of us will never truely feel the magic that was there when Walt was alive. VMK Had that magic but Disney doesn't care. Sorry for the off topic.

I had writtern something like this but decided not to post it. But I too agree to a point. I think that was part of their decision. But I really think it is an issue with Sulake. We never new who really ran VMK. Maybe they wanted more money to run VMK than Disney was prepared to pay. With all the complains that just added to it.

How many tears were shed even before the ending of the game was announced. It there truly was an alternative for all my friends to go I would not be so sad. My hope is that VMK will live again bigger and better. I did visit the Pixie site if they could make it like that wow they game would be so awesome in the graphics.

I think part of the decision was financial but I believe mostly it is contract issue.

VMK was brought on to promote items for Disney. Just so happens it was following the promotion of Disneyland's 50th. In any of the documentation from the original release of VMK did it say it was solely for that purpose. As you and I well know, VMK promoted alot of Disney items more than just the 50th. I really felt the whole vision was to promote Disney and Disney products in general and keep the magic going for people following their trips till the next one.

This is the perfect avenue for the tween community (who may have a short visit in VMK) and add in the mix of the seasoned Disney community (some of us older than others). Having the seasoned Disney community keeps the game going for new players and we love to share the magic with new people.

Problem is it was built rapidly and set apart from the Disney Online portal (not built by Disney). I really doubt concern over shareholders or not making money on the game was the real issue here. I think it is more a contractual issue that went awry. Mixed emotions over business politics and competitors. Nothing other than that. Unfortunately, we are a victim of the Corporate World. Not the first time and not the last.

To add, we complained but they listened. Over the last almost 3 years issues were fixed because we spoke up, although tone was in some posts, we provided solutions and suggestions. That to me showed they cared about what we wanted and knew we cared too. Even though this happened soon after the "Big Quest", highly doubt the Big Quest complaints were even a factor in that discussion. This was beyond the game and the players in the game.

You don't "extend a promotion because it exceeded expectations" unless profits are there. So while there were profits, business politics get in the way and will end our virtual community.
