Disney Prices Sky high?

Because I still enjoy DCL and like to be kept up to date! We have a deposit down on an August 2018 Northern Europe cruise with Disney but may let that go if our Canadian dollar doesn't improve in the coming months. I wish DCL would offer pricing in Canadian dollars like RCCL, NCL and Princess do!

THIS. From 2011 to 2014, the CND $ was pretty similar to the US$. After that it went down... Each vacation now cost us a couple of hundreds more than it used to. With thw WDW and DCL getting higher and higher it's been a total disaster.

Similar as you, we are platinum on Disney. We decided to try NCL the week of Christmas and it was like almost $5,000 less Disney for that week. We had a terrific time on NCL. We definitely missed some Disney magic but not $5,000 worth of it. We are trying Princess at spring break and MSC for summer. All half of what DCL charged for similar week/stateroom class.

I had mentioned on a similar thread that we did the 12-night British Isles cruise on Princess in 2015 -- same itinerary with same number of days in a balcony room -- and it was $7,000 less than what Disney wanted! I paid for our plane tickets and excursions and still didn't meet that extra $7,000! I love Disney, but I also want to be able to do more vacations. With Disney, we can only do one every other year (if that anymore).

Just curious why people who have "jumped ship" from DCL are still reading and actively participating on a DCL discussion board.

You basically answered your own question -- because it's a discussion board. We discuss other options, what we like about Disney, pricing, etc. No one said they have completely given up on Disney and still like to talk about it and help others with their past experiences.

Some have questioned why us old time DCL cruisers have not seen the value in DCL anymore. When we were looking up some cruises over the weekend, yes we included DCL, I found that an inside room for 7 nights on the Fantasy for a similar time period as our 2014 trip was just shy of 1000 less of what we paid for a Cat V room in 2014. With all the concierge perks we got on the ship, we where questioning was it worth it or not at that price (this is our value judgement, we didn't use the concierge services near as much as we could have). I would definitely have issues paying what they are asking now for an inside room, especially on the Fantasy.

A second example was even going from 2016 to 2017, where we saw a huge jump in prices where a 4 and 5 night B2B in 2016 was less money than a 3 and 3 night B2B in 2017 on the Magic. The itinerary was identical, except the 3 and 3 had one less port. This was why we tried another line.

Again I respect others choices for sticking with DCL, it is just that for us we have seen to many increases from when we started cruising them.

As with anything, you have to be selective. I would never pay for a Cat R on the Fantasy, I could purchase a new car for the same money. Instead, DCL is a bargain when sailing out of Galveston. Not a perfect location for everyone, but we save airfare and booking costs by sailing from Galveston. As for Alaska, looks lovely but cannot justify DCL pricing.

What is your definition of "jumping ship"? Most of the posters in this thread still have plans to cruise DCL, but they also cruise other lines.

Not a perfect location for everyone, but we save airfare and booking costs by sailing from Galveston. As for Alaska, looks lovely but cannot justify DCL pricing.

We've cruised out of Galveston the last two years. It's pretty centrally located I'm not sure why it's not more popular. I would love to cruise out of there in the Summer when I could enjoy the beach. It's one of the few cities you can get a hotel right on the beach for a reasonable price.

We are cruising 4 times this year and did do one 4 night on Disney Wonder but will also doing our first Princess, our first MSC and second NCL. I would love to be able to afford getting this many sea days on a Disney ship!! We love the magically feeling on being on any Disney ship!

We sort of now stalk the disney cruise site looking for deals on weeks/weekends we might have free. That is how we ended up on the Wonder this year. 3 weeks out from sailing the prices were so low we grabbed it and loved our experience.

We are very much enjoying exploring other cruise lines though while we wait or DCL deals.

I am not sure if the Wonder price had always been listed as low as we got it for but with 3 weeks to sailing the price seemed really low compared to other weeks. My kids happen to have a small school break that coincided with the cruise so we grabbed that one quickly.

Last May we got a GTY on 7 night Fantasy for $3,000 less than the regular rate.

I'm hoping when we retire and are more flexible, we could maybe do more GTY or last minute deals on Disney that don't require giving vacation notice at my job
