What are your thoughts on this? I am thinking of upgrading our regular Visa since we are going to Disney again next February but my DH does not like cards with an annual fee. Is it worth it to pay the yearly fee? Also, if I am just upgrading will I still get the $100 statement credit? Thanks for any advice!!

Upgrading is a personal choice, but I wanted to answer your second question. You do not get the $100 statement credit. It is only for new cards. You can open up a new account, but then you wouldn't get the 5% promotion on the upgraded card (3 months).

We upgraded, in spite of our reluctance to have a card with an annual fee. But we sat down and actually did the math, and we'll earn much more in points than the fee, so we decided to do it.

This is because we use our card to pay for everything - essentially we use it like a debit card. We pay bills, food, gas, groceries, etc. There is not a single thing that we pay for that we don't use that card (with the exception of our mortgage, and that's only because they won't take credit cards). Then we pay it off in full every two weeks. By doing this, we never pay interest, and we get points for nearly every single thing we buy. You would be amazed how quickly the points add up! We're especially excited about the 5% back for 3 months - we've been counting the points gleefully with every gas fill up and grocery run!

Without this card, we wouldn't have been able to make as many trips as we have - it has literally saved us thousands of dollars since we started using it.

We use ours as well for everything and pay the balance in full each month! I didn't realize there was a 5% promotion for 3 months, that is great!! I will have to tell my DH about that and see what he says! Our last trip we had a lot of points saved and it was awesome, I love having the card, I am just not crazy about the fee. Something to think about, thanks so much for the reply!

Yeah, we've never had a card with a fee before. But we sat down and averaged how many points we've earned over the last three years, adjusted that for the 2% that you get with qualified purchases (gas, groceries, restaurants) and figured out that we would easily earn several times what the annual fee was, so even deducting that fee from what we "earn," it made a great deal of sense for us to get the premium card.

Luckily, my wife doesn't mind doing a little math! :)

We are also thinking of getting this card for the exact same reason. However, this might be a silly question, but we buy a lot of our weekly groceries at stores such as Target and Wal-mart. Does it differentiate between groceries coming from grocery "stores" or does it do it by item? If I spend most of our grocery $$ at these two stores, and just use the regular grocery stores to fill in the blanks, I'm wondering if this card would work for us?

Look at you last years summary on the website and see where it classified your target purchases. I know that Walmart was under grocery for me but since I dont go to Target Im not sure how it will classify.

I think the rule for this is that Wal-Mart and Target "Supercenters" that sell groceries will count as grocery stores, but smaller stores that do not sell groceries will not. It's been a long time since I've seen a Wal-Mart that didn't sell groceries, but I do know some smaller towns still have the old-style store that is just merchandise.

I just upgraded to the Premium Disney card for the 5% since for the next 3 months we will be at both WDW, then on the Disney Dream then back to WDW and the Points (Disney Dollars) add up fast!

WDW 3/9-3/10

DREAM 5/3-5/6

WDW 5/6-5/9

Smcabee- I too am thinking about upgrading my card. I just went on the website and I can't seem to find where the year end statement is. Can you help me out? Point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!!

I will try. When I log into my account I see my account summary with the balance, payment due etc. Just to the right it says See statements. Click on that. That should take you to a new page with your current years statements as well as any other years statements you should have. t the bottom it should say Year end Summary. So you would click the 2011 year end summary. That should give you a breakdown of all your charges for the year by category. Hope that helps.

I may be mistaken but when I read the terms of the pamphlet I was mailed I believe it said in park purchases do not earn points. Double check as I've already shredded it.
