Disney-Pixar Studios

Of course, this may just be a licensed venture. Anyone know anything more about this?

Reportedly from the Korean Herald, via Miceage:

In fact, no cash investment for this Korean theme park project is now planned by MGM, though the company might consider securing up to a ten percent stake in the future. MGM executive vice president told reporters "we have licensing relationships, and it's not a joint venture. We'll expect five million annual visitors by establishing an entertainment venue where people can enjoy various leisure and shopping facilities not only in the daytime, but also at night." Glovit inc, a primary developer for the project had struck an exclusive license agreement with MGM for 45 years in Korea, and is now seeking investors for the project. Capital will come from Korea, China and Japan.

I've been reading rumors for a decade that the removal of MGM from the park's name is imminent, but it hasn't happened yet. At this point, I won't believe any rumors along these lines until I observe the change actually happening.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This one's starting to get a bit boring

Ah yes, a Lost ride... where 2 minutes of exposition is dragged out for several tedious hours. Sounds like a winner!

Or a Desperate Housewives stage show...
The potential for interactive elements is endless!

"Housewives - The Musical! All Singing, All Dancing, All Desperation!"

Never been to DCA, where would they locate this, Paradise Pier? :lmao:

Do we need to wonder if the beancounters and synergists have considered this?

"Synergy Ben, synergy, that's where the future lies!" :sad2:

I agree that they should try and keep the classic hollywood themeing, but keep in mind that with the loss of the name MGM comes the loss of all that classic movie history...So def a overhauling of GMR, the ride has awesome potential during a major rehab, but with the focus now on the hat and the loss of the rights to MGM, we would lose the Chinese Theatre as well...
I just noticed this post claiming that with "the loss of the name MGM comes the loss of all that classic movie history."

That's not true.

Disney has licensing agreements with various different content owners for the non-Disney scenes in the Great Movie Rid and elsewhere at the park — such as Paramount, Lucasfilm, Warner Bros., and Twentieth Century Fox.

Rights to old Hollywood movies can be really complicated. For example, the rights to the classic MGM movie The Wizard of Oz are owned by Warner Bros., because Ted Turner bought the rights from MGM and later sold his company to Time Warner. Alien is a Twentieth Century Fox movie. I think MGM is also represented in the Great Movie Ride, at least in film clips, but I can't tell you which scenes.

Offhand, I can't think anywhere else at Disney-MGM Studios where MGM is represented, except on the park's name and logo. Perhaps someone can provide more details.

The real Graumann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood has nothing to do with MGM, except that they've shown movies from many studios, including MGM, over the years. So there's no reason to say, "we would lose the Chinese Theatre as well..."

And, so far at least, Disney still has a license to the MGM name and some related rights — despite rumors to the contrary over the past decade.
