I have never been to Disney before and my kids want to collect pins on our trip. Someone here suggested collecting them before the trip using Ebay then handing them out as prizes at WDW. Question is about how much do the pins cost at Disney? Are pins in the $10 range an average price? Would it just be better to collect them at WDW? Thanks so much!!!

You should definitely buy them ahead of time on Ebay and you shouldn't pay much more than $3 a pin (at WDW they are $6.50-$11.50+ depending on the pin). Don't buy individual pins, get them in a lot. Don't worry about what the pins look like because your kids can trade them with CMs at WDW.

thanks. but what's a CM- cast member aka employees? or other wdw guests? Sorry- I'm very new at this.

WELCOME TO THE DIS!!

Pin trading is fun and addictive! Hope your kids have a ball with this. Do try to buy the pins in lots if you wish to trade. You can save some money over buying off the rack at Disney stores. Trading with the CMs is lots of fun. Your kids may want to pick a theme--favorite character, sports, princesses, ducks, etc. -- especially if you are buying the pins in the stores (usually $6.50 for standard pins up to $15 for small limited edition pins and pins that move, dangle, slide, etc.) I'm not sure if this is still going on, but there may be a pin trading seminar offered at MK in the Exposition hall. I went last year and the gentleman who hosts this was fantastic with kids!

For lots of information on Disney pins, check out dizpins.com and pinpics.com -- the folks over there are nice too.

Enjoy your first Disney trip!

Oh, I don't want to scare you off with the cost of the pins. Very few reach into the $15 range. Most are $6.50 to $8.50. Just wanted to let you know and wasn't sure how to edit the post.

My advice is to stay as far away from pin trading as possible. Its a very expensive hobby to get into!

Pin Trading can be very addictive (I know, I am)

That being said, EBay is a great place to get pins. Look for lots of 5+. You can usually get them for about $3 a pin.

I have done well on Ebay and have many tradable pins for my next visit.

Good Luck and have fun.

I am traveling to WDW with my kids in the beginning of June. I haven't been to WDW in a long time and we didn't do the pins. I think my kids would enjoy trading but I'm not sure how to do it. I will pre buy pins for them to start (on ebay) but what do they wear the pins on? Do the kids wear lanyards? If so where do you get those?

We're also making our first trip soon. I was wondering how many pins we should take with us to get started trading?? We will have 3 kiddos in our group.

Most people wear their pins on lanyards. You can get them at Disney. That's were I got mine. They have very nice ones with a plastic holder for your tickets. I love it because it makes it so much easier when it comes to fast passes. I don't have to look or "dig" out my ticket. It's right around my neck. I also can get very paranoid about my tickets in my pocket because I'm afraid they will fall out or get demagnatized. I also have seen a lot of men and boys wearing there pins on their hats. I also really like that idea and have thought about it for the next time we go for my husband. Pin trading is very addictive, but I love it.

I just wanted to let you all know that you have me bidding on pins now... I swore I was not going to start on the pin thing... but it sounds like so much fun!

What a great idea! It is going to be a great bday party!

You can save some money over buying off the rack at Disney stores.

Just to let you know, we really don't seel pins at the stores anymore. One did come out recently (within the last 2 weeks) that goes with our Americana themed product - beach towel, child's sand chair, silverweare, plates, snack dish/tray, "beer" mug (my word), drinking cup, and a couple more items I have forgotten.

Pin collecting is lots of fun - I started doing this in 1992 with Olympic pins. Enjoy!
