Hi all,
I am a little bit of a newbie on here and so I will apolgize now because I am bound to do something wrong....lol.

I already have a thread explaining that myself and my husband are planning a trip for our 12 year old daughter. She has a lung disease and is a bit delicate so we have applied (lots of other DISsers telling us to) to M-A-W and are waiting in hopes that our daughters wish is granted.
In the meantime, we are still (by hook or by crook)going to Disney World! If M-A-W falls through we shall make our own way there and do the best we can with what we have, we just cant book yet until we know the outcome of M-A-W.

I have been reading TR's galore and I am pretty interested in the Pin trading thing. I have never heard of it before but I just know that our Becca would just love it. Is there anywhere on here that has a section for it? I would like to buy a few and a Lanyard just to give her a start before we go.

Also, this is probably a bit of a push but does anyone know of a way to personalize wheelchairs? Becca only has a standard one from a medical supply place but she would love to personalize it somehow.

Thanks for listening
Mandy

A tip from a friend of mine, who is a pin trading NUT. Go on ebay and buy a random lot of pins. He calls these his trading fodder (ok he is a little odd). It will give you a good base of pins to trade with. Pins can cost $6 or more a piece, and you have to buy some before you can trade some.

We didn't really know much at all about pins before we went but when we got there our kids were really interested so we got them some. I wish I had known about buying them ahead of time.
But we bought some there and the cast members were very kind with dd and she had a blast trading pins with them.

Thanks, I will try the collectors board for the pins and the DISabilities board for the wheelchair info.
BTW: I did try searching before asking about the pins but I have an ongoing battle with the search on this board......sometimes the fill-up-doggy appears for a very short while and then gives me my search results, othertimes (this instance being one of em) the little doggy stays forever (3 hours) and I have to finish up turning him off and canceling out of the search.

Off to eBay now :)

Like someone else mentioned - go on Ebay and get some there before you go. A lot cheaper than buying them in the parks. If the auction says "lanyard" it means that they were traded for and were not bought.

Disney does series of pins that are not sold in the stores and can only be found on cast member lanyards. They are usally simpler in design and a little smaller than the regular store ones - but they are very cool!

Disney also sells (and you can find them on Ebay as well) lanyards with a set of pins on them. Those tend to have duplicates so it is one to keep and one to trade.

Just make sure to check the sellers feedback and that their auction clearly states that the pins are tradeable. There are some companies that make cheap Disney pins which are not tradeable in the parks.

Search here is kind of hit or miss. If the doggy goes for more than a few minutes then you can assume that you won't get anything and just abandon ship!

you really should look on line at ebay for the pins, thats the best place to go looking for the money. also, go with sellers with a high feedback. that way you are more likely not to end up with cheap or sedesma pins.
with personalizing the w/c you could check with the creative dis people in the just for fun site at the bottom of the forums. they have great things that they can come up with that you can use for iron ons or decals. you can see about using them for a bag on the back of the wc ( which i guarantee you will use!!!!!)when are you all planning to go?

I agree with tzeitel. We bought pins on ebay before our last trip and had a blast trading them. Just for info... I always check the seller's feedback, as well as make sure they say specifically no "sedesma, propins, or eurodisney" pins. I personally also check the seller's location, I prefer to buy if they are actually located near WDW or Disneyland... just makes me feel better.

I just won her a grab bag from Ebay so now she has pins, I just need to score a Lanyard for them now and she will be all set.

Thanks for the advice on where to start.

I found really nice lanyards at target in the dollar bins before our last trip. They had plastic covers for our tickets and the ends snapped off for easy access. (Actually of you look closely in my signature picture you can see them). They had Pirates of the Carribean and princesses. They often have them with the latest disney film. Worth a shot and great for $1.00. Good luck and have a great trip.

My daughter bought pins on ebay before we went to disney last year for my granddaughters to trade. Most of the CM were very good at trading with the kids and helping them make good choices.
