Hello-
After reading many of your posts it seems that you have not had good luck with the Disney photographers. I did not know that we could use outside, but since that goes into the minimum I am not sure that I will meet it if we do not use Disney Photo since our 1st choice date is a friday morning. Is there anyone who has had a good exp with Disney Photo and is thos something that I should mention to my planner?

We used Disney Photography for our wedding, and I have no complaints! Our photographer, Ty, did an excellent job! He tried to contact us the night before to get more of an idea of our personalities and what we wanted for our wedding pictures, but we were not in our room. So, he had to kind of "go with the flow" on the day of our wedding...and as far as I'm concerned, he got it right, big time!

Yes, I wish there were MORE pictures (who doesn't?), but I am not complaining about the quality at all!

If you are having a custom wedding, there are ways to make up that minimum...use Disney photography to do a Magic Kingdom shoot (I believe it has to be done the morning of your wedding, but check with your EM). Add a character to your festivities to help with your minimums, I'm sure others can give you more ideas...I, unfortunately can't because as an intimate bride, I didn't have to worry about that! :)

Hey-

I think the Disney photos are fabulous. I've seen a number through the official website, unofficial websites, destination wedding websites, general wedding planning websites, as well. But, remember, what one sees is beauty is not necessarily what another sees as beauty.

I absolutely love the options for the photo albumns that Disney has. Have you been able to see them? Your EM will present you the three options for them- one is traditional and two are a lot more artistic and unique. We choose the middle of the road.

My only concern with doing the photogrpahy through them (and this is my concern when it comes to the DJ, too) is that we aren't doing the traditional planning and aren't able to set-up a appointments and interviews. I'm actually working on our photography information now to send to them. For me, it's very, very important they capture these images becuase we don't have the videography service. I went through and listed the images that we want on a separate Word Documnet over the course of a few months. I am also hoping to maybe set up a phone conference to talk to them a bit, as well. I've been really laid back and relaxed for a lot of the planning- heck our EM tells me she never hears from me- but I am going to take control when it comes to these photos.

You might want to try some of the resort photographers to get a taster. You can have your family (or solo) photos taken by a Disney photographer for not a whole lot of money. At least then you can see what you're working with.

Good luck- just take control and speak up!

PS- The MK shoot can be done up to a year after the wedding. For us, the reception ends at midnight so there's no way we're getting up at 4:30 or 5:00 to be there for 6:00 sharp! It's a perk to have the Disney photographers take them becuase they know the nooks and crannies and where to get the best shots.

While I'm not positive about this, I'm sure others can confirm, but I would talk to your EM about this...if I remember correctly, if you want to count any expense as part of your minimum for a custome wedding, the expense must take place the day of your wedding. So, while you may be eligible to still have the MK photo shoot up to one year after your wedding, it will not count towards your minimum...

As I said, I could be wrong, so definitely check with your EM! :)

We definately did check becuase she was the one that told us we could do it that way. The idea of getting 2 hours of sleep before a photo shoot like that didnt' do much for me. We don't need the shoot to meet the minimums, so maybe that is playing a role?

xoxo

How many pictures do they really take and can you buy all of the proof and not have them lable as proofs. I am just afread that we will not get a lot of photos that is all?

Also I would hope that we could go around and get some differnent shots not just of the wedding.

Thanks in advance :)
Kim

I was told that the MK shoot has to be on the day of the wedding to count towards the minimums! and also you cannot use a external company for the MK shoot!

Just last week we had Disney Photography, we had Dave, and he was awesome. He took tons of pictures and I gave him a list of all the ones we wanted and he took them all and more.

Laurafoster is correct.

For what its worth, we were pretty disapointed in our Disney Photography experience. We had planned on using them for our custom wedding, but getting any kind of info out of them was impossible. We gave up and booked Randy Chapman. We did use them for our MK photo shoot as we had to, and had a less than satisfactory experience. I do think that we are in the minority and many brides have had excellent experiences and have gotten beautiful pictures from Disney Photography.

I think this is where the confusion is... we don't need to use any type of photography to meet our minimums. Becuase of this, we were told that we can use the priviledge to have our wedding photos done within a year's time. Of course, we will need to pay for the services then. If you DO need it to meet minimums, then yes, it needs to be at the time of the wedding.

I just thought I would mention that I have used Disney's photographers for a few private events over the past three years. I have used five of their photographers (one of them twice). All of them were wonderful to work with and I was pleased with their work. I'll give links to their photos below (note: I have some "unprofessional" photos scattered in those albums too):

"Haunted Mansion" Movie Set Dinner Event
Summerhouse Dinner Party Event
Grand Floridian Marina Party Event
Magic Kingdom Portrait Session
Fairy Tale Weddings Custom Vow Renewal

I apologize that I don't have too many photos in the last two albums yet, but please believe me when I say that Disney did a wonderful job in capturing the magic of my 20th wedding anniversary. This is all my humble opinion and experience.

No matter who you chose to photograph your event, I hope you are pleased with their work.

The problem i have with Disney Photography is that you do not actually get to choose your photographer...you have no idea who it will be, what their style is, or what other's experiences were. There are plenty of brides on disboards who have had wonderful experiences, but there were a few who did not. I suspect that they use their more experienced photographers for custom weddings b/c most of the complaints i have heard were from intimate brides- but that is just my suspicion. Personally, i was not willing to throw the dice when it came to my wedding pictures and that is why i decided to go with Randy Chapman even though it meant spending extra $$$.

I've noticed that brides who used Disney Photography recently seem to be happy with the service, while those who used them a few years ago have not been. I think their services must have improved lately and I know that I will be going with them for our wedding!

Like Jessica said, I think they are trying to improve. One bride even said she was told by Disney photo that they are doing some major overhauling in the department, so hopefully that will result in better service. I am having an intimate wedding, and also booking Randy even though our package includes Disney photography. I wouldn't mind going with Disney, but with Randy I have been able to speak with him over a year in advance about our plans, and he is willing to leave and come back so we can have shots of the boardwalk at night and with fireworks in the background.
