Disney Photography vs Randy Chapman Question

I was just wondering why you chose Randy over a disney package. Was it cost, quality, both? I am trying to decide if I want to for an extra package above what is included in the Intimate package (we are planning on doing the MK photo shoot), disney's packages seem expensive.

You do have to use Disney for the MK photo shoot though.

You guys, I pretty much monopolized a whole day and a 1/2 of Randy and a day of Stan. Randy will work with you! We had Randy with the rehearsal dinner the night before. Then he showed up at 6:30 to start taking pictures and took pictures through 2pm and then came back later that night for Illuminations. I paid a price for the wedding, a price for the rehearsal, and then a price for Illuminations. The Rehearsal dinner and Illuminations were not as much as the wedding, but it all added up. He was worth EVERY PENNY! To the point where he and Linda have become part of the family. I can't speak enough of him and Stan.

Thanks girl! that's what I was hoping to hear. I can't wait to begin to set up with Randy. It's a done deal on my end. I will set my date according to Randy's availablity! His photos are amazing!

I'm hoping to get the MK photoshoot in trade. I know that that sometimes brides have been offered that if they choose not to use DIsney Photography! Here's hoping!

Are you aware that unfortunately it's the honeymoon type photoshoot that is the alternative? The one in normal clothes during park opening hours

I'm one of the people who used Disney for everything. Unfortunately, I only found this board about a month prior to my wedding, so I really didn't know anything about Randy Chapman. Had I known about what a wonderful job he does, I probably would have thought a little more before I went to Disney. I was lucky that i had two head photographers, and they were so much fun to work with! I was so happy with Paul after just talking on the phone, and after the wedding, he told us that he even had a great time at the wedding! Not to mention the pictures coming out well, everyone cant' stop talking about it! So needless to say, I lucked out with Disney, but i'm sure that not everyone has the same experience, especially since you can't choose a certain photographer.

Dee is correct. The only substitution Disney will give you is the honeymoon shoot either in the Magic Kingdom or possibly EPCOT. It is an hour long shoot scheduled for sometime between 9am and 2pm (I think). You cannot wear formal/dressy attire into the park--the pictures are taken in casual clothing. I will look through my email to find the exact options and photos provided and post the information as soon as I get time.

I have to say as well that I'm one of those people who lucked out with Disney ...but guess i threw a big enough fit because i got Disney to let me meet with my photographer and view (his) photos ....Also i talked with Photo management for a good week in deciding which photographer would best fit my wedding......he did a wonderful job

use the password ariel he emailed it to me when I enquired about his services. His photo's are lovely - it'll bring a lump to your throat (well it did mine!)

We chose Randy over Disney. Several years ago we were burned by Disney photography. Disney lost half our engagement pictures and the rest were blurry. The photographer brought 2 cameras, film and digital. He lost all the digital ones, and the film ones did not turn out well. They were taken at night with the fireworks, and I think something was wrong with the exposure/timing, because they are quite blurry. Afterward, we had a difficult time working with Disney.. they didn't return phone calls and never made it right.

I'm not trying to say that you will or will not have the same experience as us. Many folks here have beautiful photos by them.. I'd just caution you because you can't choose your photographer, see their work, and go into it with some expectation or understanding of what you will get.

that's so awful Heather. At least your wedding photo's should be OK with Randy.

no discounts I'm afraid - they offer you a 'honeymoon' photoshoot in one of the parks (during opening hours in casual attire) in it's place.

Just talked to my EM about it and since I am not using Disney Photography for the wedding I was offered a "honeymoon" photoshoot in the Magic Kingdom but can go to another park and do the "honeymoon" photoshoot for $50 more. They don't offer you a discount at all and if you don't use their photography for the wedding or do the honeymoon photoshoot then you just loose out on that as part of what is included in your package.
