Disney Photography Police Change

Again, its just my personal opinion but I think that any new Disney brides reading your letter, as posted, may not have a fair impression. I just hate to see the "bash on Disney photo bandwagon". There are sevral great Orlando photographers that started with shooting weddings at Disney and branched out. Randy is great and has been doing it longer than some but still, its only 25% of his business. And for a Disney photographer its 100% and I'm sure that if Disney pays what is necessary, they can have and keep a staff of great photographers. Its sad that you think that Disney cm's don't have a clue and its unfortuante that was your experience and I think writing Disney is a great way of clueing them in. But with that said, I think as with any business, things are bound to go wrong and its unfortunate and horrible when it does happen on your wedding day.

And not that I'm suggesting that Randy would do this, but there benefits to going with Disney for photography, namely that someone will show up and capture your event. As horrible as it is to have stuff go wrong that your planner didn't anticipate (weather) and then didn't follow the plan, there have also been multiple brides stuck in a situation where their photographers/videographers didn't show up or did show up and then never lived up to their contract by sending the couple thier photos or footage.

And your example of what happened with Stan and Randy is horrible but does show the difference with working with Disney. I'm willing to bet if it was thier video and their photo that wouldn't have happened, it being coordinated properly.

Which isn't to say I think Disney is the end all be all of weddings. I went outside for video and floral but had to go with Disney for photo to meet my minumum. And it isn't to say that I don't think their policy should change and I told them as much after our wedding that I think looking and picking specific photographers would be helpful. But at the end of the day, its thier property and they're going to do whatever they want and what makes them the most money and if we want to hold our events there, we have to make the best of it. Which is still a much better option than going alot of other places.

That is horrible!! I would want someone like Randy or Misty to take my pictures :sad1: They take amazing shots and they look like they love what they do. Disney needs to change that policy around for people to atleast have that one important option for that special day in the lives of 2 people.. Pictures to me are VERY important!

Finally, I think the statement that a Disney photographer will know more about what is going on can be inaccurate as well. My personal experience is that Randy has been doing weddings at Disney longer than most Wedding Coordinators.

Actually a large number of the DFTW staff have been on board for many many years and have a vast amount of experience. Sure, Randy does a lot of weddings, but the DIS represents only a small fraction of the total DFTW population just as the other Disneywedding communities. Randy is MOST popular here, just as Stan is, but as StitchBride pointed out Randy also has other brides that do not get married at Disney.

We had DPS for our MK shoot and a private surprise bridal breakfast and absolutely loved their work - it was AMAZING!

I am not saying that Disney staff members are not experienced to take pictures. I am saying that Disney should give the brides the right to choose whom they want. When my sister got married she had a very famous photographer on South Beach and my sister LOVED him to death but personally I did not like him. Everyone has the right to choose.
Yes, Disney has great photographers but I personally would like the option to choose who I like. Randy and Misty have shots that I personally would love to have.. I personally just think Disney wants to make every single penny to them selves and it in not fair for Brides not to have options. Okay that you must get cake, flowers and everything else from property but come on the photos too..

Not trying to say anything negative just giving my opinion :goodvibes on what I personally think.

I think that this decision is going to push Disney to prove something.

To prove......that they can keep up with or surpass the competition.
To allow brides to see the body of work of a specific photographer.
To allow brides to pick and choose the style that they want.

I think you are going to see some changes that they are forced to make.

Right now I don't envy the leader of Event Photography. This FORCES them to step it up several notches and keep the quality up with the guest service. I think that this is an opportunity for them and we should give them a chance to show us the changes that they can make.

It doesn't mean that I don't love what I got from Randy, it just means the rules have changed and I am interested to see the pressure that this points on them and how they handle it.
