Disney Parks Merchandise

I like my souvenirs. I have been going to Disney every year now for the past 6 years and have gone many, many times prior to that. I find more things now than I did in the past. I do not like plain t-shirts (I feel like they are choking me and they are so boring). So I like all the fun stuff they have been putting out there - Mickey jewelry like earrings and necklaces (I wear them EVERY day), Scarves (love my purple tink scarf that looks very Ed Hardy), bags (I have a white with 'ed hardy-esque' minnie & bling is my thing on it that is my favorite), shirts (they are coming out with much more interesting shirts now with different styles and materials), and all sorts of cool things! Here are some of my favorite places/things for those of you that think it is all plain and boring:

- The crystal pavilion on the walkway outside of Germany. I got a pair of beautiful crystal earrings and a necklace that have the mickey head in them and both were priced around $30.

- The Italy shop - I got some brightly colored ceramic necklaces that have a painted mickey head as the centerpiece.

- Scarves - I wear the light weight scarves in the spring and fall (and winter!). When they are wrapped up, you don't see the glaring Disney items on them but I know they are there and they cheer me up!

- Mine, mine, mine! merchandise at the Living Seas. I have a shot glass with this on it and it's awesome!

- Michael Jackson EO tshirt - I cut off the collar and the end of the sleeves and bought it in a large size. The tshirt is soooo soft and I wear it as a PJ top. I just like it because it has MJ on it :)

- Pineapple - Coconut scented perfume at the Poly gift shop as well as synthetic flowers to wear in your hair!

- The pirate shop at MK!!! Love this spot for some really cool tops, buttons/pins, and cool toys for the kids.

- The bazaar in Adventureland or most AK shops - mickey head hair clips in animal prints.

- Basin at DTD or GF - Pink sugar mickey head soap. They have other scents too but it is different color mickey heads in the soap. The pink soap with white, clear, and red mickey heads is my favorite!

- Make your own tshirt at DTD - I made these for the whole family (and cut off my collar) but they are so fun to personalize! This was one of my kids' favorite souvenirs.

- Clip on small stuffed animals at most gift shops - they are inexpensive, small, and so cute - perfect for gifts or for me to hang off of my purse.

- Japan at Epcot - okay, this isn't really Disney themed merchandise but I could list about 20 things that I MUST buy here to get me through the year (like their toiletry cases and rice paper oil blotting papers in cute packages)

- Sticker booklets - my mom is a piano teacher and the stickers they put out are small enough to put on the students music when they have finished it correctly. They are fun and cute and the kids love them. I especially like the four worlds with retro looking stickers included!

I could go on and on! Maybe everyone just wants plain t-shirts, magnets, and mugs and I'm not that type of person. I like all the fun stuff they put out there!

My biggest complain is still the resort specific merchandise. When I was younger, we pretty much stayed at the same places because that is all we could afford. The best few years we have been able to stay at some of the deluxe's and I really like to have something form each resort we stay at... no luck though. I hope the bring the resort specific merchandise back..some hats- t-shirts, mugs etc...I would be happy with that.

It's also frustrating when it seems to be all the same merchandise in all the shops. And then the other side of that frustration is the one thing you put off buying because you know you'll see it again = the one thing you never do find again!

I admit that my purchases have gone down. I buy the occasional ornament and pins but I seldom buy a t-shirt or hat. I don't really buy mugs.

I don't really buy anything that states Disney Parks.

Have you all written to Disney about this? The more complaints they receive the more likely it is that things will change.

In 1986 we bought 8 mickey celebration mugs. They "celebrated" the 15th anniversary of the MK. We had 4 children who used these mugs EVERY day.
They went in the dishwasher, we used them to hold food coloring for easter eggs, we used them for birthday parties. We used and ABUSED them. Yesterday our grandchildren were over....they used them.
Yes, for 25 years we have had the same 8 mugs with the mickey balloons on them. No chips, no fading, no cracks. They are my grandchildren's favorite cups.
I will admit that while the kids were in high school/college the mugs didn't get as much use, but they were still used.
In the same 25 years we have gone through numerous other mugs from disney.
Some broke, most faded, all chipped and cracked.
You're right, Pete, they don't carry the same quality they once did.

We are at the world now .I usually go home with loads of disney shopping but not this year .
I do not like the fact you can buy the same items anywhere they are not unique to resort or park or WDW or DL.
They have lost a lot of dollars off me this year .
But shorley their sales must of gone down ?
:confused3

I can remember shipping my purchases home because it was less expensive then the sales tax would have been. Well we don't worry about that anymore.

I've yet to respond.

Would you ?
I wouldn't.

I always figure people are doing their best or doing as much as they care to do. Either way. Either Disney can't do any better OR they just don't care to do any better. I stick this in the "don't care" column.

I don't even bother to complain. But if I did, like you did and they already got my complaint and did nothing and didn't respond except to tell me that I should take further action, I'd totally give up. I'd figure that if they actually cared, they'd contact me with some response other than "tell us again at this number..."

Some people/companies just don't want to do any better. No amount of explaining or helping will make them better because they actually prefer to remain at their level of suckiness. You can lead a horse to water...

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't call. And I'll be interested to hear their next response if you do!! :)
