We purchased a silver mickey ornament in the magic kingdom back in May and paid extra ($3 or so) to have the year written on it. We didn't take it out of the bag until a few weeks ago to put it on the tree and now I'm noticing that the date is rubbing off. I'm so bummed. If I had known it would come off so easily, I never would have paid to have it on there. Is there anyone I can contact about this? I know it's not a lot of money but it was our daughter's first trip and I really wanted an ornament with the year on it to mark the occasion.

That stinks.sorry about your keepsake. I don't know who to call, but if that store is anything like the Christmas store at DOwntown Disney, they personalize with a permanent marker or paint pen. You should be able to pick one up at your local craft store and preserve the date on there for posterity.

Thanks. I'll contact them and see what they say. I'm wondering if the ornament being a smooth metal means the writing will rub off regardless. I'm pretty sure they used permanent marker with a paint pen highlight to write it on there.

I contacted merchandise services via email and they got back to me right away. I had to send a picture of the ornament and then someone called me to get more information. They said they would send a replacement but that it wouldn't arrive until after Christmas. That was fine with me and totally understandable. Imagine my surprise when the ornament arrived today! What great service, very impressed!

The nly thing that I found off putting is that she said the writing you pay to add to the ornaments isn't meant to be permanent! Why in the world would you get it then??? I wanted 2014 to be written on it so I would remember when we go it, not to just look at once or twice. But, overall great service!

Have you thought about taking it to a store like Things Remembered and having the date engraved into the metal instead of have the date written on the metal?

This is what I would plan on having to do.

Well that is a disappointing confession, but it makes sense. Paint tends to run off, so I guess that is what they mean. We just bought friends and ornament. Hopefully the paint makes it to next Christmas. They did hang it up fairly quickly (within a week).

I was going to chime in to just email guest relations. We had one break in our suitcase on the plane ride home and I contacted them and they sent me a new one free of charge with the same personalization on it.

Use a sharpie. For goodness's sake, it was $3. What were you expecting? ;)

We've gotten ornaments at WDW before and had them personalized (every trip since 2006), and have never had a problem with the personalization rubbing off. If we found it had happened, especially so soon after the trip, I'd be contacting WDW too.:confused3

What was she expecting??????? She was expecting the date to stay on the ornament.

Your comment was extremely rude and there is no reason for it.

Op- if you want the personalized paint to last longer, try spraying it with a clear acrylic sealant. You'll have to experiment to see what works without running, but it might help it last a little longer.
