Disney on September 11, 2001

I was in the air when WTC tower 1 was hit - between Baltimore and Providence, RI. I fell alseep while the jet was at the gate in Baltimore and when I woke up, our World had changed.

My DH had just arrived at work at a NYC News network. He worked 42 hours straight - no sleep - no break. No one could make it in to relieve him. I think if you could amortize adrenelin through the rest of his life.......his blood pressure would remain elevated to the end.

We went to disney about a week and a half after the tragedy. We were supposed to fly and obviously ended up driving.Never have I seen the place that empty. It was wild.Walked on to everything, could stay on certain rides again and again.(rode splash 4 times in a row without getting off). It was really odd.We went to universal that week too.Pretty much the same thing there. The hotels were very empty too. Just didn't have a good vibe about it.We enjoyed the trip but it most certainly had a somber spin on it! The only other trip that reminded me of it was when people were being randomly shot down in the virginia area.We went down that year too via driving.Needless to say I gassed up in PA and went well below virginia before stopping for anything!

We in the parks that day,we were at the formerly called mgm studios having lunch. A cast member came up to use and told us the parks were closing, take time to finish your lunch but then you must leave. It was a huge mass of people exiting the park. Cast members were handing out one day passes as the people left. We didn't overhear what had happened until we were getting on the boat back to the boardwalk villas. And at that time had no clue to the extent of the event. We spent the entire afternoon in front of the T.V.
However Disney was wonderful, so many cast members came to work to help entertain the guests in the evening at the boardwalk, I am not sure how the could of kept their minds on their jobs though.
My husband also had known co-workers that were ending their vacation at Disney the afternoon of the 11th and couldn't fly home with the airplanes being grounded. They didn't know what to do? Disney let them stay at their hotel free of charge for a few nights till they could reschedule their flights.
