I have lurked on here for a while, soaking up the knowledge, and of course feeling envious of all of your talents.:flower3: You guys have some AMAZING shots.

We are going to Disney On Ice this weekend, and my pictures always come out awful, no matter what I do for settings. I got a Nikon D90 for Christmas and I'm so psyched that my pictures may finally look nice. Any advice on settings? I plan on playing around with it a bit when I get there, but if I could have a starting point, maybe what you have found that works, or doesn't work. Thanks in advance!

I can't give you advice on your camera, but wanted to warn you about photography at DOI. When we went (2 years ago) if you had a little camera and were taking photo's with no flash they left you alone. But one woman near us had a beautiful DSLR set up with a nice zoom lense and she was asked/told to stop taking photos. After the first time they visited her, she didn't stop so they were back. I couldn't hear what was said, but it seem like "hey lady, stop taking photo's or we're tossing you out".

Hopefully you'll have a better experience! We didn't get great pics either, but got a couple that we could scrapbook with some cropping.

Good luck!

My first piece of advice is to tell you to call the venue where the show is being held. Be sure that they allow cameras at all. And when you move into the wonderful world of DSLR's, some people automatically assume you are a professional photographer, especially if you use a lens of any great length.

Yes, it's fine to take the camera in, I had a DSLR before this one and used it many times in this venue. There have been some places that preferred you didn't use them though. I knew about the flash, it is dangerous to the skaters. If it flashes in their face it can really throw them off, especially if they are partnering and doing lifts. Thanks for reminding me.:thumbsup2

I went to Disney on Ice a few weeks ago and the announcement before the show started stated that photography for personal use was gladly permitted; I don't remember anything about flash, but I didn't use it; I did see flashes going off during the show though.

If you are close to the ice, the skaters may stop and pose for you when they are waiting for cues, etc.

I'd double check that. Where photography is allowed, they often restrict anything with a removable lens because its "too professional".
