Hubby and I were playing around with Google Earth last night. We were looking at our home, our parents' home, and friends' places, when I mentioned that we should look up WDW.

Well....

It's blurred out!

Well...

Except EPCOT.

Oh well.

It's still neat to see EPCOT though! :confused3

I thought that too the first time I looked but you can see the Magic Kingdom quite clearly, try again!!!

MK and Epcot are clear. The only ones that are blurred out at the max zoom level is the MGM and AK areas, including their resorts.

You have to remember that the images came from a few years ago, not recent images, so they might not have done a fly by after that year to get a zoomed image.

The southern half of Epcot WS is blurred out and also POP doesn't exist!!!!
I think it's at least 3 yeras old....

Oh I am sure that those pics are old. When I went to look at my parent's place the pic did not even show their addition...that they put on 8 years ago!

So yea, the pics are old.

I'll have to look at them again and see what I can see when panning out.

Thanks for the info!

It's odd how they piece together the country. Some "pieces" are old, some are very recent and many are only available at certain resolutions (zoom levels).

Just this morning I also decided to take a look at WDW and noticed that the southern half looks very nice while the northern half is only available at low resolution.

2 years ago I noticed the same thing with Microsoft's terraserver... OKW was split right down the middle with some very nice pictures and I believe the southern half had only tinted/distorted images available. Most likely, M$ and Google have a common source for at least some of their images.

If you look closely, AKL is not blurred. AK, MGM, Boardwalk, & YC are.

MK is clear, so ar e alot of the resorts around there. Dont remember if I saw Downtown Disney, though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Disney property is "off-limits" to satellite imagery following 9/11 due to Disney as a potential target for terrorism. Pretty sure you won't find any current images within the last 4 years. I think I heard that the property is also restricted airspace.

I could be way off, just something I remember hearing....but who cares if I am, I'll be there in 9 days!!!!   :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:

WDW airspace is restricted, but I don't think space imaging is off limits. I may be wrong, but area 51 has a high res scan in google earth. CENTCOM here in Tampa is in there too. you can see the 20K subs behind the MK. cool stuff.

I think satellites are too high to be counted as in airspace, and also Epcot has Mission: Space, with at the least the building completed, which must of been at least early 2002... so I dunno.

It's only a matter of individual states (and maybe even counties) being up to date on their aerial photography.

For instance, the entire state of NJ was re-done in 2002 as a funded project so all aerials are up to date. Older images have worse resolution and will be blurry. As the rest of the country catches up the pictures will fill in.

Just so you know its the other way around. The northern half of WDW is clear, and the southern half is blurry.

Also for anyone who is interested. You can use these coordinates to see other Disney destinations. All except CC are in high resolution. Just copy the entire red line and paste it in the fly to box.

Dukesmom is right. It's all about restrict air space. You look at Washington, DC and you can't much regarding the White House, Capital and etc. Love this web site. Some of the things I don't know are so accurate. My sister lives in a very populated CA city. I put her address in and is actually put the house next to her's as her house. I could tell, because she's got a pool and this house didn't.

Actually it has nothing to do with restricted air space. The images over WDW will be updated to high resolution eventually just give them time.
As for Washington DC I don't know what your looking at, but I see the White House and Capital Building just fine I can zoom all the way in and its in high resolution. You are correct though about the system being slightly off on some addresses though.

I checked it out today on Google Earth...this is getting off of what you are all talking about now, but did anyone see the Mickey head that is to the NE of Disney. It looks like it's in a farmer's field or something. Very cool! I wonder if it's still on Disney property?

I just discovered Google Earth and it's very cool.

I didn't see a Mickey to the NE, but I did see the Mickey just south of the TTC parking lot.

For anyone trying to find WDW, paste
28.4187 N, 81.5812 W
into the box.
Those are the coordinates of the hub of MK.

That is too funny that you guys are looking at this too, my DH loves it!

Maybe you saw the Mickey ears that are an electrical tower/post near Celebration. We noticed them on the drive to MCO after leaving WDW. Now why can't every ugly, large, metal electrical post holding lines be made into Mickey ears everywhere?? :confused3  Then they'd be much nicer to look at! :earsboy:

The pictures are quite old. We zoomed in on my dh's old place of employment (he hasn't worked there in two years) and his car was parked in the parking lot!
