Disney News Round Up

The overall concept and idea of DCA was great but it didn't draw people in. Disney studios was built the way it was because DLP wasn't profitable yet they spent billions on it. DCA took some big short cuts when they shouldn't have. DCA was a salute of sorts to California and I think they did a good job at that but it didn't have any originals that were instant classics.

Exactly. The theme and story of the park in generally was strange. Why would you build a part all about California in California? If I was a local I don't want to visit a park that's all about my state. I want to experience other places. I mean have you seen pictures of this park BEFORE the makeover? Like go to the site called Yesterland and check out areas like Sunshine Plaza or the entrance to the park. it was cheap it looked cheap. Like I mean the only really good area was Grizzly Peak.

I actually kind of liked the entrance to the park. I have never been to DLR some day I will get there. DCA 1.0 was eisners attempt to make Disneyland more of a destination than a locals park. The strangest thing I think was that taxi ride where you say little celebrities or something I thought that was weird but overall it was a good concept. DCA 2.0 looks 10x better tho.

If you are referring to Super Star Limo then yes that was the worst part of Disney California Adventure and a complete embarrassment to the Disney brand. Einser's worst fail ever. He even liked the ride, but other top exec almost FORCED him to change the ride to Monsters Inc. To me the entrance as well as the stores looked cheap. There was no real immersive placemaking or atmosphere to the entrance. It wasn't a place you wanted to spend time in like Main Street or Hollywood Blvd. Condor Flats and still is kind of bland looking. I know there were plans for phase 2 of the DCA expansion to change it to a Grizzly Peak nature park theme, but not sure what happened. DCA still has some flaws like the Hollywoodland section, but it is getting there. I believe that Iger and hopefully the people after him will continue to invest into the park to bring it to par with Disneyland across the street.

P.S. I really hope to go someday soon!

I also want to add a few more news stories.

5. A new illuminations dessert party will be starting this week at Epcot. It will be called the sparkling dessert party. It is $49 for an adult and $29 for kids. It gives guests a special viewing area in world showcase to watch illuminations. It offered a selection of desserts and sparkling wines.

6. Mymagic+ and magic bands should now be available for all AP holders. All you have to do is go to your MDE account and customize your band. It will ship in 7 to 10 business days. They will only be shipped inside the US so anyone who has an annual pass outside of the US is out of luck. You will also not be able to pick a band up at guest relations or anything they are only being shipped out. Also today they have changed it so AP holders can only reserve FP+ for 30 days in advanced. In those 30 days you can have 7 days worth of FP+ selected. If an AP holder has already selected FP+ in he previous 60 day window they will still be honored but from here on out its only 30 days.

Concerning #6 above: if you are an Annual Passholder staying on Disney property, will you be eligible to make Fast Pass + reservations 60 days out for all 14 days of the reservation or are you restricted to only 7 days worth of Fast Pass+ and those to be made only 30 days out?

7 days of FPs within 30 days unless you stay at a Walt Disney World resort.

Because you are staying on disney property you should be able to boo FPs for all 14 days at 60 days out but if you were not staying at a disney resort than you would only get 7 days at 30 days out.

The liberty belle will be down for four days in august from the 4th to the 8th for a short refurbishment.

Today looks like it began CM testing of the mine train. CMs were seen riding the Mine train this morning. The big media event is set for later this week maybe we will also see a soft opening this week as well.

Rumor!

Olaf from frozen may be coming to the parks in the future. A report today said that Disney may be working on a Olaf character that would roam like PUSH the trash can did. Also with that reports that kristoff may start making appearances as well. This is strictly rumor right now.

The first six Polynesian bungalows are all roofed and now are starting exterior and wall work. The next set of bungalows are starting to get frame work. There is going to be 20 when everything is done.

Also Disney now has a Spanish language availability at FastPass kiosks. As of right now Spanish and English are the only languages used at the kiosks.

That helicopter in the earlier post also went around to resorts and Epcot for filming today too.

During the middle of the day huh? Funny, Disneyland did theirs at the middle of the night after park hours.
I looked into it more and they were filming all around the WDW resort today. Epcot, MK, and a few resorts. WDWmagic reported this indeed for soarin filming. They did standstill filming and filming with the helicopter going down mainstreet etc.
