Disney News Round Up

While I think changes will come to Epcot I think disneys focus is still on adding Star Wars right now as they just appointed a new guy to head Star Wars in WDI.

Which even that is great news. Disney is getting ready to get the ball rolling when it comes to theme park expansions and offerings.

I also think Iger is starting to set up disney for when he leaves. Iger leaves in 2016 and has been on a fantastic run. I believe one reason we haven't seen any Star Wars yet is because they aren't finished script writing and planning the new movies yet. I think they really want to add those movies into any sort of Star Wars expansion or ride that they do.

Yea sure glad he isn't staying as long as Eisner did....that could be bad. Well it might not be but why take the chance right? The last thing we need is Eisner 2.0 running and changing things up.

I agree Eisner did great things until the end of his career. Iger came in and fixed all of those things that happened in the end of Eisner. Just look at the things Iger has done, bought Pixar, marvel, Star Wars, DCA 2.0, Frozen, NFL, Avatar, etc. just think Iger was originally a weatherman.

Eisner did some very good things for the company during his early years. After doing a lot of research into his past this is what you get. This makes up the biggest stuff so some stuff may be missing.

Star Tours - A great idea and has proven to still be popular.

Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye - Once again another great job that Eisner was behind.

Splash Mountain - The Disneyland version is crap but the one in Walt Disney World is great so another win for Eisner.

Big Thunder Mountain - Another great win for Eisner

Euro Disneyland - The Magic Kingdom is hands down one of the prettiest Magic Kingdoms in the world.

Disney's California Adventure 1.0 - I don't really have to say anything about this. The park was a failure hands down. The couple of good rides were hidden behind tacky themeing and an overall cheap atmosphere. A true shame to Eisner.

Walt Disney Studios Paris - um I am not even going to go there.

Animal Kingdom - A good one done by Eisner.

Hester and Chesters Dino Rama - Yea the story behind the area is fine but the area itself is cheap and tacky looking. While the theme itself makes sense the carnival style rides in Disney World do not.

New Tomorrowland - Both good and bad. The Disneyland version sucks and still sucks today. A cheap way to change the theme so you don't have to spend money later to keep it looking futuristic.

Innoventions Disneyland - Another great failure of Eisner.

Innoventions at Epcot - A complete failure and a slap in the face of the original Communicore. Made it even worse in the late 90's when guest complained.

Ellen's Energy Adventure - The ride itself is fine minus they toned down the special effects and removed the cool design on the outside. The real problem was he opened the old ride when the new effects due to delays in the ride. Very bad on his part.

Mission:Space - The ride itself is cool but there were other places to build a pavilion and he knew it. He simply didn't see a reason to have to constantly update Horizons.

Test Track - The ride and idea is fun but the theme and style didn't fit the future theme of Epcot.

Living with the Land - This he did good on.

Food Rocks - Another good one.

The new Land pavilion - Overall I think he did fine with it. I personally thought the painted mural on the roof was better but the blue looked good too.

Circle of Life - Sad since it was just his way to add Disney characters to Epcot.

Sorian - I personally think this was a good choice since the ride is cool and fits pretty well with the land theme.

Journey Into YOUR Imagination - Don't have to say anything.

Journey Into Imagination - Again don't have to say anything.

Leave a Legacy Program - The idea is cool but it came with removing the green landscape in front of Epcot to add some giant stone slabs.

Then you have the removal of all that beautiful green in Future Worlds hub.

Norway- Good job Eisner.

Morocco - Good job.

New Tomorrowland Disneyworld - A half butt attempt at giving the land a new look. The one area is highly themed while the backside is barely themed at all.

Monsters Inc Laugh Floor - Whatever

Anyway so as you can see this is just a few of the things that took place under the reign of Eisner. While most of the good things happened at the beginning of his reign the worst took place in the latter.

Your right, Iger is not bad like Eisner was. Iger has even went behind and fixed some things Eisner made a mess of.

Eisner did some very good things for the company during his early years. After doing a lot of research into his past this is what you get. This makes up the biggest stuff so some stuff may be missing.

Michael Eisner was CEO of Disney from September 1984 to October 2005.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad opened at Disneyland in 1979 and at Magic Kingdom in 1980, so Eisner does not get credit for those.

Morocco at Epcot opened 15 days before Eisner joined Disney as CEO on September 22, 1984, so Eisner does not get credit for that one either.

Eisner departed from Disney in October 2005. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened in April 2007. Development of the Laugh Floor attraction was probably funded under Eisner's watch, so I suppose Eisner could get credit (or blame) for that one, but it was largely developed, built, and opened under Iger's watch.

Disney's greatest period of growth and creative rebirth in the last 30 years was was from 1984 to 1994. Keep in mind that it was not just CEO Michael Eisner who came aboard in Disney's restructuring of 1984, but also Disney President Frank Wells and Disney Studios head Jeffrey Katzenburg. Along with them came financial wizards and other executives who knew how to get things done in Hollywood. Wells died in a helicopter crash in 1994. When Katzenburg sought to move up into Wells' position, Eisner ousted him. Without Wells and Katzenburg, the second half of Eisner's 20-year tenure at Disney was much less successful.

Many in the Disney fan community believe that it the was quiet and private Frank Wells, not publicity-seeking Michael Eisner, who was the real leader behind the achievements of 1984 to 1994 -- or at least that Wells was the only person from whom Eisner was willing to take criticism and direction.

More than once, I've heard the term "toxic" applied to Eisner's later years at Disney.

As the CEO of Disney, Eisner deserves credit and blame for things that happened under his watch. But he did not personally run the theme parks and resorts. In some cases, such as Splash Mountain and Captain EO, Eisner had a personal role in championing attractions. However, befitting the role of CEO, Eisner's normal role in parks and resorts was to put the right people in place, approve budgets, set direction, get involved with major capital expenditures, and show up to cut the ribbon at significant grand openings.

Ok my apologies the list was a little off but at the same time so of the biggest failures in Disney history came on his watch. Disney California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Paris is enough to make any CEO look bad. He did have a say in these. He started out with great ideas for Disneyland. He truly wanted to make it a world class destination much like Disneyworld. Westcot and Port Disney were GENUIS ideas. I don't know what happened but he eventually got to the point to where he thought that they could built cheap rides and not spend a lot of money but people would still come to see it. I mean look what he did to Epcot. and THAT was under his watch. Either way like I said before...he did many great things but there are plenty of bad things the man did as well. I am not going to completely bash him like most do, but I do want to know what made him stop becoming a dreamer and try hard. Why did you start believing that you could build anything and cut corners and still be a success?

I cut him some slack on walt disney studios because they had to build something that they didn't really want to the French government was involved.

How about the jacking up of prices of the resorts/theme parks at a rate well above the rate of inflation?

I think any good business raises prices until demand goes down. If you had a business (huge mega billion dollar one, or small town one) would you sell something for $5 that would easily sell for $20?

Disney really is the only game in town, they are one of a few huge mega resorts/amusement parks in the world, everyone knows Disney movies, characters, tv channel etc

I agree disney still racks in huge attendance numbers and every year they raise prices.

Idk he had his hand in the park plenty and didn't want to spend the money on it. It was a quick attempt to please the government since they were wanting a second theme park. But sure I can cut him slack there but not for DCA 1.0.

The overall concept and idea of DCA was great but it didn't draw people in. Disney studios was built the way it was because DLP wasn't profitable yet they spent billions on it. DCA took some big short cuts when they shouldn't have. DCA was a salute of sorts to California and I think they did a good job at that but it didn't have any originals that were instant classics.
