Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

The performance of Inside Out 2 bodes well for Moana. Disney animation is far from dead!
Yeah, I mean, us hardcore fans might complain about sequels but the average parent looking to spend money on a movie with their kids seems likely to choose a known entity. It's hard to fault a studio when they get these results with sequels. I just hope we still get room for original stories like Elemental, which was also very good and ended up doing well.

Well, Elio is still coming next year.

Inside out 2 is Pixar. Moana is Disney anamation. Different groups

Right. Thanks for that. It's still The Walt Disney Company and they have been seen as having weak releases, especailly in the animation realm from both WDAS and Pixar. That perception has radically changed over the past couple of weeks.

I fear for Elio... seems like a similar genre compared to Strange World and Treasure Planet. I also saw Pete Doctor share during an Inside Out 2 interview that director and screenwriter Domee Shi (Bao and Turning Red) has recently been brought into the project. Sounds like the changes with The Good Dinosaur and I think it will only fuel the sequels more. I hope I am wrong, but it seems like Moana 2, Frozen 3 & 4, Toy Story 5, and tons of other sequels will be what we see for the foreseeable future.

Why would they bring in another director when they already released a teaser for the film last year?

I believe the script may be getting reworked like The Good Dinosaur. I have no actual confirmation of this, but Inside Out 2 was not pushed an entire year+ like Elio due to the writers and actors strikes. It was just a few months. No mention of Domee Shi completely replacing Adrian Molina, but Docter confirmed she is working on it a few weeks ago...

"I have a great slide of the directors from seven years ago versus the directors now, and it's a whole wide group of filmmakers. Regardless of diversity, any time someone goes in for the first time, there's a steep learning curve. Domee Shi, who's already done Turning Red, is working on Elio, and you can see the experience level."

I would love to see The Fray

I’m probably not the best person to measure this against but we love the movies and go often. I’m a bit bored of all the sequels (I did love inside out 2, and we have been twice). I’m looking forward to Elio but I also worry about it, my kids aren’t excited for it, but they are excited about Wicked, Moana 2, and Harold and the purple crayon…..
