Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I've had the opposite experience and try to fly with United every time now. The the airline that has messed up more than once with me is American, so I won't fly them unless absolutely necessary.

I wonder if it's certain areas that have worse experience with specific airlines. I always fly out of LAX even though it's not the closest because I usually don't have any issues there.
United has nonstops for the places I want to go to, so that's why I pick them. I realize that most, if not all US based airlines suck but United's customer service is a joke. I fly out from IAD and it's mediocre if I'm lucky.

Isn't it odd that the wife didn't just rent a car and drive herself? That's what we would've done. It seems so odd to me that they instead had the 2nd adult spend 34 hrs. in a car and do a round-trip long car ride and take a day off work when she could've just driven the 1 way.

A one way rental may have been over the top expensive and out of their budget or not available. She may also not drive.

But I agree. That would’ve been my first idea. I hate driving to Florida but it was my plan b when we went in November and a lot of flights were being cancelled. I told DD we would hop in my car and drive if we couldn’t get on another flight.

A little but depending on the ages of the kids, that might have been very hard. And who knows if she drives.

IDK, seems like it is more general scary funny and it is not Halloween specific like a Hocus Pocus or Nightmare Before Christmas.

I might actually go to a theater for this, i am usually content to wait for DIsney +.... but I love Haunted Mansion
Coincidentally, Hocus Pocus was also a July release

It was but it also bombed pretty hard when it released. It only became super popular when it was released on VHS and played on Disney Channel every October. Not saying that'll happen to Haunted Mansion. Just an observation.

New Jersey Dad Drove 17 Hours to Disney World After Wife and Kids Had Flight Canceled. Then, He Turned Around — Without Even Stepping Inside the Park.

By Richard Burkard

Some people will do anything for a Disney experience. Knewz.com learned about one family which took an unexpected 17-hour drive.

Nathan Montanez simply planned to drive his wife and two children to an airport. He would stay home in New Jersey and work while they flew to Orlando to visit Walt Disney World.

But then came trouble. United Airlines canceled the flight 15 minutes before takeoff from Newark Liberty International Airport.

Wife Jill Tobin-Montanez tried to explain the worst to her children, since tickets on other flights to Orlando were unavailable for days.

But then came a surprise. Nathan Montanez messaged his wife, reporting he was back outside the airport. The family climbed into the car.

And then came a bigger surprise.

“He asked if we were ready to go. We said ‘yup,’” Tobin-Montanez told Good News Network. “Then he told us to get ready for a long drive.”

How long? From New Jersey to Orlando, with no overnight stops. The husband became a marathon man behind the wheel, driving more than 1,000 miles. He even had the song “On the Road Again” on radio.

Nathan Montanez dropped his family off in Florida past midnight, after a 17-hour drive. The wife and children didn’t miss a scheduled Disney day.

As for dad? He rested for a few hours, then drove back to New Jersey without them. He had to get back to work, but in the end, he only missed one day’s pay.

“Not many people in this world would do that,” his wife said. “The kids absolutely appreciate what he did for them.”

Tobin-Montanez went on to call her husband “our rock… wife to one amazing dad.”

Her Facebook posts are private, so Knewz is unable to report on how the trip to Walt Disney World went.

But that sort of loyalty to Disney seems to be lacking this summer in other travelers.

According to CBS News, attendance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Independence Day was the third-worst in the past 12 months.

Touring Plans, a company that watches amusement parks, found the average wait time at Walt Disney World on Tuesday, July 4 was 27 minutes. On the holiday in 2019, the wait was 47 minutes.

The Wall Street Journal noted attendance at theme parks in general is in a slump. For Walt Disney World, attendance on the long Independence Day weekend was the lightest in nearly 10 years.

While Disney did not comment on the numbers, several reasons could be offered for the decline.

Some people point to price hikes by Disney. A ticket to the Orlando parks now costs more than $100.

People with a political bent wonder if Disney is paying a price for taking on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, in the debate over gender identity laws.

There’s also a civil rights theory. The NAACP warned against any travel to Florida because of how minority groups are treated there.
Why did that flight get cancelled?

Anyway, he really didn’t have to drive 17 hours to Disney World. He and his family should’ve taken the Amtrak train.

I wonder what this does to the EPCOT and MK extended hours? These seem like really random dates!

I think maybe 2 do and the other 3 don't? And they don't even fall on the same nights of the week. They are all over the place (unlike the normal Monday and Wednesday schedule they've kept almost the whole time).
I wondered the same thing. With MNSSHP on Sun, Tue, Thu, Fri I guess MK could get some extended Mon hours and Epcot could overlap a party? If not would Disney really try to schedule 2 deluxe PM hours at the same time to draw crowds away from MK on a non-party night? IDK

I'll watch that....at Halloween.
We have tickets for next Thursday. By Halloween time, enough time will have passed that we'll re-watch it on Disney+ if it's good! If not, there are plenty of Halloween and/or horror movies on our list each year and we never have time for all of them

I was wondering why I couldn't watch the new Marvel Assembled documentary this week on D+ ...

Disney+ Delays Ant-Man 3 Special Amid Jonathan Majors Controversy

Following Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's debut on Disney+, the film's Assembled special was set to debut on Wednesday, June 14.

Now, the special has been delayed indefinitely, with no signs pointing to when Disney will put it on its streaming service.

While no reason was given for this delay, some fans have speculated that it's tied to star Jonathan Majors' ongoing assault case, which could mean trouble for the Assembled episode if the cast and crew speak highly about him and offer praise for his performance.

Not a huge update, but when catching the new Secret Invasion ep yesterday I noticed D+ finally released the Marvel Assembled: Quantumania documentary for viewing

The Bacon Brothers Removed from ‘Eat to the Beat’ Concert Series Lineup at 2023 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival

A change to the Disney World website removes The Bacon Brothers from the Eat to the Beat concert series lineup for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael were previously scheduled to perform August 13-14. That date is now listed as “To be announced”.

The Bacon Brothers are kicking off a tour on August 24th – just 10 days after they were scheduled to perform at EPCOT. It’s not immediately clear why they were removed from the Eat to the Beat schedule.

Okay, anyone who gets this survey - you TELL THEM that this is the BEST THING EVER! Do it. I beg you. It needs to come back!

Told my daughter about this and she agrees with you. She then mentioned all of the aspects of the show she loved - which was virtually every aspect of the show. It gave her a spark of hope hearing there is a survey about it out there. Sadly I didn’t get it
