We had a great time eating at so many of WDW's restaurants on our recent trip (12/9-12/22), but one thing that bugged us time and again was how dull their knives were. We'd order a nice filet or some other pricey piece of meat, and then it would take a LONG time and a LOT of effort to cut it. It'd seem tough as shoe leather. But then on eating it, the meat would turn out to be wonderfully tender. It was just that the knives were so dull!

Did we get bad luck, or does Disney need new knives?

Well, a good filet shouldn't really take any effort to cut through. I hope you just had bad luck, but I wouldn't hesitate to ask for sharper utensils--you shouldn't burn a calories worth of dinner just trying to consume it!;)

Were you using a standard table knife, or did they bring you a steak knife? Any time I've ordered steak, they've brought me a steak knife and it was plenty sharp enough.

In the case of the filets, porterhouse, etc., they brought (dull) steak knives to both of us. I don't recall having a steak knife for the flank steak at Garden Grill, but I might have. Either way, they were dull.

The Kona Cafe has the dullest steak knives that I have ever used at a restaurant in my life. Could not cut the prime rib the last time, asked for a new steak knife, my waitress brought me another and it was no different than the first one. I used the knife to "tear" away pieces of my prime rib.
