Disney names new Parks And Resorts Chairman

Former Consumer Products head, has history with studio distribution, and also worked with Heinz.

He developed the Disney Vault strategy. I hate this man.
What's wrong with the Disney vault? I think that is brilliance for a company actually. I don't like that he has zero parks experience. He came from consumer products that could only mean more consumer products at the parks that could get bad.

The Disney Vault is at odds with society's desire for free, and open information. Look at the Internet, and especially YouTube, iTunes, and Netflix. Their usage, and following show just how many people agree.

I'd also say it diminishes the cultural relevance of certain properties. If a princess movie is in the vault for the early years of a child's life, that means it will never have an attachment to those characters. The very opposite of what Iger wants. Short term maybe it works. Longterm destruction of the brand.

It also ticks me off that even if I want to buy something. I can't. Lol

Someone mentioned this could be Paul Pressler all over again and we all know how that ended up...
What are you talking about?

You're saying there are parallels between two executives that have no creativity, practical park operation knowledge, and don't care about customers?

Oh wait...

The vault was a great marketing idea at the time. Today, not so much. It doesn't create the same urgency it used to.

Like the PP said the Disney vault was a great idea at the time not so much today. Disney does have their movie app which is connected to iTunes I believe and you can purchase the movies on there. I know I have a few on the app.

He has zero parks experience and seems to only have worked in the studios and in consumer products so I don't see this being very good. Paul Pressler for sure wasn't very good.

Also this guy was pretty much a no name not expected for this job so who knows how he will do. But only time will tell I guess.

According to someone on wdwmagic the merchandise sales in the parks aren't doing that great compared to where they have been in the past. So this could've factored into that decision meaning we all know what Iger wants.

I agree.

Why does this Exec Team (and BoD) just think any Exec at Disney can do any job, anywhere, at any time...? Do you pick the Head of Catering to direct the next movie? The Marketing Director to be CTO....? I guess they feel anyone can run P&R as long as they've run something and they're a good lunch partner...

So much for experience....

This has been pretty typical the last few years they just move execs wherever they have an open position whether they have experience or not.

Eisner once said all the executives operating Walt Disney Parks were monkeys. I doubt Iger thinks very differently...

The only thing I'm left wondering is when the new CFO will be announced?

It's going to be a year or two before we see what this guy has to offer because anything that's announced or debuted in the next year has already been in the works for a long time under previous leader such as Star Wars, Shanghai, Pixar etc. I just hope this isn't another Paul Pressler or we could be in big trouble.

That position technically isn't open at this time. Rasulo is still there working without a contract so he could leave at any time if he wants.

I don't think anyone will deny that the merch side needs a ton of help. I am not sure that is the priority for many of the posters on these boards though.

I would certainly welcome a merch change back to the variety of the past.

However I would much rather see a push towards innovation and new entertainment.
