I'm heading down to my brothers in London in a week or so time. Now he has no interest in musicals never mind Disney. I'm looking for strategies/advice about going solo and not needing a second mortgage. I'll be there from Friday to Monday afternoon.

Any constructive advice gratefully received :)

I dont go to many musicals but Im sure you might be able to pick up cheaper tickets by going to a matinee rather than an evening performance, Im sure somebody will correct me if im wrong, but have fun and I hope you find something really good to see. :thumbsup2

Aren't there little booths (I seem to think in Leicester Square) that sell tickets a bit cheaper for the performances. Never liked to leave it to the last minute but if there is only yourself to please then its obviously easier.

There are several places to buy last minute tickets. The official half price ticket booth is in the middle of Leicester Square sort of in front of the Odeon. This usually attracts a big queue and tickets are bought on the same day. If there's a particular show you want to see you can always turn up at the theatre on the day and see what's available, they often have returns. We have done this a few times. Also check out Lastminute, they usually have some good deals.

Just realised I've misread your post, I was thinking of shows in general. I can only think of two Disney shows - The Lion King and Mary Poppins, both very popular. There still might be availability though, it's worth a try.

Apparently if you wait until the last minute before a performance starts you can pay for 'standing room only' I've heard of people doing so and then they go sit in a seat that hasn't been sold - I'm not sure how reliable this info is though so its a bit of a risk.
I bought 'cheap' tickets in a booth in covent garden once for My Fair Lady, but we paid almost as much as mid price tickets and we seated in the gods with a rubbish view! good musical though.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping that since most people would at least go with a friend that maybe I'll get lucky.

If I could get to either Lion King or Mary Poppins I'd be happy, otherwise I'm not that fussed about going to anything else :)

Excellent choices Reid ~ What about the Mousetrap, I really want to see that one next time I'm in London.

I would love to see Lion King as well Reid :thumbsup2

Lion King is a brilliant choice. Saw it last year in the West End. The music just makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

I have seen Mary Poppins once and Lion King 3 times in London.

I love Lion King.

I would recommend either show.

Good luck with getting cheapy tickets - I'm sure you will get something.

Well I've booked flights to London 20th - 24th July, so I'll let you know how I get on.

Anybody any other suggestions :)

good luck with the tickets :wizard:
Please let us know how you get on

We tried this one time and ended up paying full price for Cats i think and then ended up falling asleep half way throught :rotfl2:

We are hoping to see Mary Poppins in the summer, but considering it will cost over £200 for all of us, I might reconsider!

We saw Lion King a few years ago and it was a great show. The music and costumes are great and it creates a wonderful atmosphere. Please let us know what you end up seeing.

We saw Mary Poppins in March and Loved it!

We purchased our tickets from lastminute.com - they had some good deals with a show and dinner etc!

We went to the Lion King in London in February and it blew us away. Best show I can remember seeing, and I would see it again no problem (except I live in Glasgow!).

Many theatres have a block of seats - called Day Seats - which are only sold on the day of the performance in person.
I am pretty sure both Lion King and Mary Poppins are offering Day Seats - you need to check with the theatre in advance to find out what time to begin queuing.

I wish you luck :)

The Lion King is fabulous!

Thanks this sounds hopeful :)

I always buy my tickets at the booths in Leceister Square. You need to get there late morning, early afternoon, you do not need to go to the official one which always has the longest line, the others all sell real tickets.

The Lion King is really really really great! :simba:

Are you planning on doing anything else such as Madam Tussards? If you are i'd recommend paying the little bit extra for the Planetarium as there normally isn't a long line for this and you can go straight into Madam Ts which has a huge line most days.
