I am not trying to be a burden to parents... or even dismissing Disney... in a sense.

If you knew what exactly are in the Disney movies would you let your children watch them?

I am sure you've heard of the rumors in some of Disney's movies, Aladdin whispering "Take your clothes off." The pastuor displaying an erection in the Little Mermaid, the large ***** on the cover of the Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland promoting drugs. I'm sure you've seen or heard of these things, and more.

I am just wondering if you knew that your child will eventually find out and is somehow altered because their favorite "hero" are doing these things and they figure it's fine to grow into those habbits as well.

I am not blaming Disney for this, I am trying to go after the editors and ask them why they would put the content they have in there now.

Please give me insight of what you think of this topic.

Thank you.

I think it is a load of bull. There is nothing wrong with Disney movies and if someone has to look that hard for something like that in Disney movies then I question what is wrong with them.

Doesn't bother me at all. I've read all the stories (snopes.com has a whole page dedicated to it). As the last poster said, you have to really be looking for these things. And I'll admit, DH & I replayed Lion King countless times too see the word "sex" in that one scene!!! I think there are bigger things to worry about when it comes to raising my children.

I'm trying to take you seriously, but really, are you kidding me? Considering the sheer number of people the movie goes through before it's released to the public, I find it hard to believe that these things were consciously done. I've personally reviewed a few, and my opinion is that many of these things were innocent to begin with and it took a certain type of mind to look for them. Maybe the original people who told about these things was joking, or maybe they were looking for a reason to raise an outcry against Disney, I don't know.

I'm not fond of the way you phrased:

I am just wondering if you knew that your child will eventually find out and is somehow altered because their favorite "hero" are doing these things and they figure it's fine to grow into those habbits as well.

This takes it as a foregone conclusion that my children are going to be "altered" in a negative way by Disney movies, and implies that this is the only evil out there. Have you met the real world? This stuff is all around us. Shut your children in a hole, maybe, and they won't encounter it. But if they leave the house, they're encountering sex and drugs in some way, shape, or form. (BTW, saying that Alice in Wonderland is related to drugs would be more of a reflection on Lewis Carroll than on Disney, I would think.) I would rather explain to my children what's going on when they have questions than try to ignore that it's out there. I could go on a long diatribe about how society's shut-up-and-don't-talk-about-it attitude causes more hang-ups than honest, open discussion, but I'm not going to.

Finally, many Disney movies have a positive message, are entertaining to both my children and me, and don't make you feel like you have to kill a few brain cells every time you watch them. I feel a whole lot better letting my children watch, say, Brother Bear than I do letting them watch the Spongebob Squarepants Movie. (OMG, who came *up* with that idea??) The only reason you don't hear about the fallic castle or the s-e-x in the dust (that's not even a dirty word, for crying out loud! I refuse to let my children be afraid of something so silly) in other movies is that no one cares . They look for this stuff *because* it's Disney. And frankly, there are two sides of every story. Have you ever tried looking for a rational explanation? Is it really a far-fetched idea that someone thought that castle just looked like something that had been weathered away by the currents of the sea? Am I the only one who thinks that the supposed erection on the priest was just a line in a pair of pants? I've never been able to hear the "take off your clothes" so I doubt my kids could, either.

I'm sorry, I really tried to keep this short.

I agree!

But I would like a plot issue changed - how about 2 parents for the movie?

Lion King - dad dies
Finding Nemo - mom dies
Little Mermaid - where's mom?
Bambi - bye mom
Fox and the Hound - bye mom
Snow White - bye dad
Ice Age - bye native mom
Sleeping Beauty - yup 2 parents but 16 year separation
Cinderella - bye dad
and on and on...

I couldn't be alone on this one :headache:

DS is now 18 and I was talking to him about the 'undercover' Disney issues.

I only know about them from trawling the internet, something which DD (7) isn't quite a good enough reader to do yet ;)

DS burst out laughing, didn't rush off to research things and has forgotten all about it by now.
Hardly a big issue :thumbsup2

I noticed that. Even in the movies where it isn't a part of the plot, there seem to be singles. I've always wondered where the dad is in Toy Story, and what happened to Jasmine's mom? :scratchin I need closure.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I does seem that a lot of them belong to the "he man woman haters club". They always seem to "off" the mom.

The Incredibles is a nice family! :thumbsup2 I do wonder why they always choose to not have a complete family.

Also...whoever mentioned Ice Age...great movie, but not Disney. :teeth: That was bothering me. lol!

IMO, they are all cartoons! They aren't real! And honestly, how many of us noticed those allegedly "hidden" things in the movies before it was made public? I know I didn't. I LOVED the little mermaid growing up...still do. My mom bought me the VHS tape when it first came out and I watched that thing forever. I NEVER noticed anything re the priest or the cover until I heard about it later on.

Hmm only 2 posts both word for word exactly the same....

In answer to your question people who spread these rumors have an agenda. My DH who absolutely hates disney has no problem with letting the kids watch the movies or go to WDW.

From the "rumors" I have heard about the different things in the movies...my nephew works for Disney. They were not in the original movies. They were added to the VHS tapes when they were being released, and the "rumor" has is that it was some of the people who work on these movies and were not happy with disney that added them to the tapes. I grew up on Disney movies as have my children (DS18, DD13) and they have heard about the movies, and in no way has it altered them or me. I would rather have my kids watch Disney then some of the other cartoons that are out there...ie: rugrats, sponge bob, ren and stimpy and lets face it the list goes on. The only way kids find out these things to start with is an adult somewhere has said something. How many kids would be looking for that kind of things in movies unless they were told. I think some people are too critical about Disney and their success!!! JMO

Ditto....

I smell a Troll, come on get a life, you join the DIS and your two first and only posts are to run down Disney movies, although I respect you opinion and will even agree that your point has a grain of validity (and I stress grain as like one grain of sand on the beach). How many childern have gone to their parents and asked, "Mommy why is there a wee-wee on the Little Mermaid Box?"
Now let me tackle your points:
Aladdin whispering "Take your clothes off."
I never heard this, have tried and don't believe it is being said.

The pastuor displaying an erection in the Little Mermaid
He does not have an erection, they are his knees under his robe.

the large ***** on the cover of the Little Mermaid
IF it was intentionally drawn, it was not Disney's fault but some pervert, idiot animator, and after the phallus resemblance was noticed Disney changed the cover.

Alice in Wonderland promoting drugs
Not sure about this? Where do you pull that from, the Catipillar? Oh yeah there is that scene when Alice tells the kids to smoke pot and shoot up, I forgot.

Anyway, here is the main link to snopes Disney urban lengends:

Never gave any of it much thought. I never look for the hidden things and my kids wouldn't understand if it was apparent.

. . . and if you play the Beatles "I'm so tired" and I Am The Walrus' backwards you will hear the unmistakeable, undeniable words "Paul is dead, Paul is dead"!

Oh yeah, . . . and 12 Americans never walked on the Moon, either. :thumbsup2

I really see no problem with the Disney movies, whether the supposedly "bad" things in them were intentional or not. Most children would never notice any of the things mentioned or even think of them, so I wouldn't even worry about it.

Just wanted to add about Alice in Wonderland: It is in NO way promoting drugs. Pick up the book by Lewis Carroll. Although it is a wacky story, it is an unbelieveably complex book with loads of themes. I did a literary analysis of it when I was a junior in high school and man, I could fill pages and pages with all kinds of themes, lessons, symbolism, etc. Everything has a point and Lewis Carroll knew exactly what he was doing, no drugs involved.

I needed a good laugh this morning!

We just watched Alladin. I guess we all missed something because no one saw or heard anything unusual.

Actually, I'm more concerned having the evening news on.
