Disney movie plot holes/storylines thread. What things in Disney movies make you think “does this actually make sense?”. What would you change in a Disney movie to make it have more sense? What alternative scene would you add to the movie?
So, Disney but not Disney (Marvel). We re-watched Black Panther last night and somehow it just struck me this time through that Wakanda basically had space-age technology not only in the present-day but during the centuries when Europeans subjugated the African continent and enslaved millions using the superior technologies of gunpowder and ships. And they held fast to their isolationism through all that horror. It isn't really a plot hole, as such, but is just so casually awful that it casts the whole fictional culture and royal line in a different light that I never saw before.
For the most part, I'm not one to over-analyze movies, though, especially not animated films. Even the no-writing thing in Little Mermaid never bothered me because I dropped enough books in the bathtub as a kid to feel like an underwater culture might not be super big on written communication.
I hate the idea of nitpicking movies to death. They are not documentaries. They all rely on some suspension of disbelief. I really think cinema sins is the worst thing to happen to media studies.
What’s more important in a story is the arc, character development, etc.
