I saw an ad for DMC on the back of one of our newspaper inserts on Sunday and though I've seen a LOT of DMC ads (and have received a lot of offers in the mail), this one seems like a pretty good one. I've been going back & forth on it for a while now, but with this offer the math seems to work out in my favor. But before I take the plunge, I'd like you guys to catch my math & point out anything I might be missing.

The deal is 5 DVD or Blu-Ray's for $1.00 shipped plus a commitment to buy 4 more in the next 2 years. But you can get 6th DVD or Blu Ray for $11.95 shipped & cut your commitment back to 3.

They say the average price for a DVD is $19.95 + S&H, so I'll assume $25.

So...

#1-5: $1.00
#6: $11.95
#7-9: $25.00

TOTAL: $87.95 for 9 movies, or $9.77 per movie.

Prior to this I've been getting most of my movies used from secondhand stores for around $10 and have been getting the new releases on Blu Ray for around $19-$25 depending on my coupons.

So it seems like I'd come out ahead with the DMC and this offer for a mix of Blu Ray and DVD.

Am I missing anything? Is the monthly Featured Title business so much of a PITA that it's not worth it? How easy is it for cancel my subscription once I fulfill my obligatin (and thus not have to deal with returning movies monthly)?

I don't know if they've changed this or not, but an issue with the movie club was that the new release titles weren't available right away. There is a considerable lag between when they hit the stores and when you can get them from the movie club.

Also, if you were planning to go Blu Ray, you should probably figure $30 per movie you buy.

I'm OK with the lag for new releases... I was looking at this primarily to build our catalog (I have an extensive one but it's all on VHS so I'm slowly trying to upgrade them all) & still planned on getting the NEW releases in the stores since I figure they'd be a better deal with coupons & store sales.

I think the Blu Ray price is $29.95 + S&H so it'll probably be more like $35. So I figured I'd get my first 5 movies in Blu Ray since they're cheap cheap cheap, then get the full price movies to fulfill my commitment in DVD format since they're cheaper.

Does that sound good/right?

There is a thread somewhere on the dis comparing the different offers, it has a code that gets the 5 for $1.00, and then you get to buy a 6th AND 7th, and only have to buy 2 more...better deal....just search Disney Movie Club....never mind, found it, just click on the link...not sure if they will let you switch between the blue ray and DVD, though...

If you get $1 blu rays you are signed up for the blu ray club and you have to buy blu rays for your committment. You can't switch to DVD to fulfill your committment.

Aha. I was wondering if there was a catch like that. Definitely changes the financial picture. What if there's movies that I'd like to order that aren't out on blu ray? Will I still be able to order them? Will they count against my commitment?

I have been in the DMC so long I think my first movies may have been pictures etched on stone tablets.

Regarding the monthly Feature. You do not have to allow them to send you the movie. Each month they send you a physical piece of mail with a response card for the next feature. You can reply online, via an automated phone response, or mail the card back (it also frequently includes stickers, etc). I always just go online and opt out.

I haven't ordered a monthly feature in years. I keep the club and once or twice a year order a ton at 60 percent off. It works out to be a good deal for birthday/Christmas gifts.

I have more than fulfilled my subscription obligation, and could cancel at any time. I think you can even cancel online, but for me it is worth it to keep

I would start with the regular DVD's for the club and you can still buy the blu-ray DVD packages from them. Some are $30 but i just bought Lion King and cars 2 for $24.95 each pre-order through them. I got 60% off all my other movies because I am VIP, which means I full-filled my obligations. I did that years ago. I have automatic denial of all monthly movies, it was an option when I became VIP.

I have been a member for 8 years now and it is so worth it. In this shipment I am getting Bugs Life in collector's tin for $9.95, a free Halloween pin, a grape soda pin from UP for $7, a T or T bag for $7, and Nintendo DS game (VIP special) for $9.99. Meteos sells for $25 at WDW which is the only other place I've seen it. plus the two pre-orders for $25 each DVD/blu-ray copies for both.

I think it's a great deal. I signed up using the deal mentioned above, so I got my 6th and 7th when I signed up. I have to buy 2 more movies and I'm done. I get an email every month and I decline the monthly selection from a link in the email. It's super easy and then they send a confirmation email so I know they got my decline. And then they also send a monthly mailing (for the same thing, you only decline one time, it's just another reminder). I am waiting for Pooh to come out and then I will probably fulfill another movie, cancel this membership and start all over!

Thanks for all the info and advice. I just signed up. :goodvibes The promo that I used gave you 5 blu ray for $1 with commitment to buy 3 more. But you could buy an additional title for $11.95 and have that count towards your commitment. So for $12.95 I got (all on blu ray):

- A Bug's Life
- Alice in Wonderland
- Princess and the Frog
- Tinkerbell's Great Fairy Rescue
- Monster, Inc.
- Fox and the Hound

Just have to find 2 more titles over the course of the next 2 years & we'll be all set. We're going to give DD one movie when it comes in then put the rest away for future Christmases, birthdays & Easters.
