Pixar's 2001 film Monsters Inc - about monsters who scare kids for a living - is to have a sequel, the Disney studio has announced.

The animated follow-up will be released on 16 November 2012, Disney chairman Rich Ross revealed.

Another Pixar film, The Bear and the Bow, is to renamed Brave and have its release put back from December 2011 to 15 June 2012.

Disney is also to make a new Muppets movie, Ross confirmed on Thursday.
The film, to be directed by Flight of the Conchords creator James Bobin, will introduce a new puppet character called Walter.

Featuring the voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman, Monsters Inc made more than $525m (£342m) worldwide.

It is not known if its director Pete Doctor - who went on to make the Oscar-winning Up - will direct its sequel.

Featuring the voices of Reese Witherspoon and Billy Connolly, Brave tells of a Scottish princess who dreams of being an archer.

Set in 18th Century Scotland, Brenda Chapman's movie is the first Pixar feature to be directed by a woman.

Other future projects from Disney-Pixar include a retelling of the Winnie the Pooh story using hand-drawn animation and Frankenweenie, a stop-motion cartoon based on a story by Tim Burton.

Pixar release Toy Story 3 this summer, with a Cars sequel due in cinemas next year.

Good to here, but was not expecting a sequel to this movie, was hoping for a sequel to Bug's Life

Oh I was totally expecting a sequel. The last scene was when Sully opened the door and said "Boo?"

Super duper excited for this one!

I don't have 100% confidence that Disney can put out a quality product. When you sequel a classic like this you are putting your butt on the line.
They better not F it up or there will be heck to pay.
I reckon Toy Story 3 should give us a good idea on what to expect.

Should I give-up hope of there ever being an Incredibles or Wall-E sequel? I read years ago that Brad Bird, the writer of The Incredibles, didn't think he could ever top the first one so he didn't plan on ever writing a sequel:guilty:

Monsters Inc is one of those movies that gets better with time. I hope the sequel can be as good as the original. :earsboy:

This was my favorite Pixar movie when I was younger, right now it's hard to decide what my favorite is. I think it's extremely off to see so many extensions coming out with Pixar movies recently... Toy Story 3, Monsters Inc 2, Cars 2 is coming out as well, right? Of course Toy Story 2 didn't let me down at all, and I just hope it'll be just as hard to know which movie to love more.

I was hoping for another original movie but I guess they've run out of ideas for right now :sad2:

I'm going to film school and I plan on directing the live action version of the Incredibles. Remember when Mr. Incredible said Bombvoyage got away? "We'll get him! Eventually!!" ;)

It makes sense... especially because they have the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor at WDW.

I am like you and wish they would do an Incredibles sequel. Seems like there is so much they could do with the superhero storyline to keep sequels coming out!!

I think Bug's Life should get a sequel. Mostly because in Disney's California Adventure they have a small land called Flik's Fun fair.

Movie aren't like in the 30's or 40's where they would play in theaters for a year if they were good. Peter Pan and Snow white got exposed to nearly the whole free world while in theaters. But new movies can be gone in a week if they are bad and a couple months if they are good.

Cars 2, Monsters Inc. 2, Toy Story 3, but no Finding Nemo 2? Maybe, Finding Dory or Losing Marlin?

I'm so hyped for all of these movies, i already have my tickets for Toy Story 3, Brave sounds awesome too. And Monsters inc, and you have no idea how happy you just made me, a 2-D winnie the pooh origin movie??? I could die.:upsidedow
