Disney Mom Panel..not impressed

FOR THE RECORD THIS IS NOT HOW I FEEL OBVIOUSLY!

I think many have heard the stereotypes of Disney people being overweight, scooter drivers who hoard Disney memorabilia and only travel to Disney where they expect to be treated like royalty at all times from the beginning to the end.

wow you are really too much to handle:confused3:confused3 I have never heard that stereotype of people at disney however. Maybe that is your own personal one? You got issues lady.

There always seems to be one or two panelists that give out simply bad information. As in, information one can find on the actual Disney website. However, I will say, Disney DOES post that this information is not verified by Disney and is the opinion of the people posting.

From the Mom's Panel in the "About this forum" section:

I actually feel this is not smart on Disney's part. I would think as a company you would not want to promote or support a group of people who are giving factually incorrect information. By allowing them to possibly give incorrect information, they could potentially end up with upset consumers who were told one thing only to find out it is something else (yes, I know that is covered in what I quoted, but you know that legal is different then what the consumer sees).

You risk this happening with regular employees. We hear all the time that a CM has given someone wrong information.

I think the marketing benefits of showing people that you have "Real Disney Fans" not only providing advice and info, but also talking up Disney out weights the risk of getting wrong information.

I agree with you. I don't have any comments on the panelists appearance, but I find it inexcuseable they are able to post wrong information.

That's just bad business on their part to have incorrect info posted on an official Disney website.

I completely agree with you. It's not smart on Disney's part. Look how heated people get here when a CM tells them something and it's wrong. Can you imagine if people acting as "experts" for Disney tells them something and it's wrong? I think they need to have a fact checker or have more intensive training for the mom's panel. In my opinion, possibly even having interns/CP participants that have done guest relations or worked in the parks multiple times would be the best choice. The CP participants could do this from college on their spare time and they have Disney experience. Not to mention they have 1,000's of alumni that are looking for a potential in later at Disney that would bend over BACKWARDS to do this.

There is actually a question asked that shows on the main page that is answered incorrectly (about the Prix Fixe menus). This information could easily be approved before it is actually posted. There is no reason that Disney can not approve the information being given in writing before they allow it on the site.

Disney promotes this group as a way to get information and answers to ones questions. If they are going to promote them as such, they need to be sure the information given is correct.

I think the marketing benefits of showing people that you have "Real Disney Fans" not only providing advice and info, but also talking up Disney out weights the risk of getting wrong information.

However, it seems so simple to put in a safety net -- a fact checker! Anyone can make a mistake. When it's a real-time communication (example, guest asking a CM), sometimes there's not much you can do. But this isn't real-time communication.

It seems like they ought to have someone in the marketing department signing off on the responses (for accuracy) before they get posted to the web site. I agree that real fans giving real answers is a great thing, but if the info's not reliable it undermines it. I'm not saying hey should turn each response into marketing-speak, but the fact checker could bounce it back to the Mom and ask them to edit the response.

About the Disney Stereotype of and image they want to project...I'm going to a face to face interview for working in the World Showcase (Canada Pavillion its done through the Cultural Representative Program) and I can tell you we aren't all perfect looking (added each other on facebook)... I don't think Disney has a certain stereotype look. They do have certain requirements however but I dont think they'd be placed on the mom's panel (nail length, facial piercings, odd hair colour etc).

*sigh* I just hope the one made fun of isnt a Disser I've seen a few mom panel dissers

I dont think it was judged on how cute they are.
Close your eyes and listen. The did a fine job.

They should try to make sure that all CM's employed by them give accurate information as well. Having them relay incorrect information is not something one wants to deal with when planning a trip either:headache: To the OP, beauty is in the eye of the beholder :sad2:

I only watched the first video, but had no problem understanding them. Nor do I care what they look like.

I hate that it's called the Moms Panel. Always have.

I dislike that they give wrong information.

I saw quite a few attractive people when I watched the video not that that even matters. I do hope that they get their facts straight now but worrying about their appearance? Really?

I'm not asking for them to be supermodels, I was merely saying I wasn't impressed all around. And yes aesthetic beauty is something everyone judges others on some scale. I think it's silly to think otherwise. While beauty may fade, it sure as heck can get you in the door the majority of the time. I just hope they answer questions correctly and actually have useful information. I wish that they disclosed more information about their family dynamic.

Beauty can definitely open doors (sad as that is) but I would personally rather see people that look 'real' to me. I don't want fashion models (at least not exclusively) but I'd rather see a cross-section of all kinds of people.

Plus I think that some of these people were quite nice looking. I don't see that any were all creepy or anything plus I still don't see why that matters.

:confused3 What? What you previously posted is not how you feel or what followed your all-capped statement is not how you feel?

They looked pretty varied to me and if they were more varied I have a feeling you'd have a lot more to pick apart.

And how could you tell anything about NY Mom's sweater? I could barely see it.

I haven't really been impressed with the advice on the mom's panel either. I've gone looking for some answers there before and seen inaccurate info.

I also wish they would diversify a little. It would be nice if they had a person with some sort of disability on there to answer questions pertaining to navigating the parks with challenges. You can't answer questions about using an ECV at WDW if you haven't done it. It's a whole new ballgame (been there, done that, got the t-shirt). Perhaps a single person or 2 to answer questions about adult only trips would be nice as well. Not everyone that travels there does so with a family in tow.

Now that's a good idea.

You're not impressed. Certainly you're entitled to your opinion. Complaints about misinformation given, again a valid complaint. But criticizing their appearance just comes off as shallow. It's a Mom's Panel, not a Princess Panel. The purpose of which is to allow regular people planning regular vacations the chance to ask regular people like them for advice and tips. And that's exactly what Disney provided. Regular people.....moms, single moms, moms from Canada and the UK, dads, an aunt, even a single person. Have you been to WDW? Ever taken a look around at the other guests while you were there? The group looks pretty representative of the people you'd see in the park.

I don't see anyone from New York in that list. Am I just missing her?

One of them is from my town, Hillsborough, NJ! Yeah.

They all looked like normal Mom & Dad's that go to WDW every year.
