Disney Mobile Magic App DIScussion

Sorry for the lack of updates. I will try to write up more on the app soon. In the meantime i added a few screenshots of the app in action in at the Magic Kingdom.

Thank you for the pictures. That looks a lot like the "old" app, only the graphics look much better. Really can't wait for the iPhone version.

I too really like the looks of it. I could not get it on my Blackberry Curve thru Xerizon this past March. I was bummed. I did get touringplans.com app and loved it. Thinking of getting a Iphone soon so will be interested to see what they have next time we go.

I don't think this violates the first post because it isn't about how to get MM but about whether or not I can.

I currently have a Samsung Omnia II which is not a supported phone (Windows Mobile).
I am waiting for the Samsung Stratosphere to come out which will be an Android phone. Can any Android phone get MM or is still only supported on specific phones?

What I would like to see added :goodvibes to it would be a feature that would allow (with my permission since it has to access my account) the app to download and store my ADRs and other reservations (dinner shows, watercraft rentals, etc.) . I know it has a way to manually enter reminders, however, I'd like it to automatically download everything that's stored on my Disney reservations list. They have access to it because I get a print out when I check in on site, and I can see them (mostly :rotfl: ) when I log into the Disney website, so it should be relatively easy to add in a feature to download them into the app and store there. And it would be automatically set for Eastern Time.

I dislike having to use multiple apps at a time, so if I'm using this app (or even another app) for wait times, etc., I don't really want to pull out of it to look at my phone's calendar for the details of my next ADR.

If we're really getting fancy, then since I can already mark restaurants as favorites, then it should be able to link my ADRs with my favorites, and when my reminder pops up at whatever interval I set it, it shows where my ADR is in relation to where I am if I've turned on Big Brother (as I call the GPS on my phone) .

:goodvibes :wizard:

It doesn't show exact wait times.

It shows posted wait times, which are not exact.

I am a Verizon customer, but I can't get the Disney app because it won't work on my phone.

I manage to live without it and do quite nicely with the Lines app from the touringplans.com people

The Lines app works as well or better than the posted Disney times. I love it!!

if you are a VZW customer you can visit:

m.disneyworld.com

to see it on your browser. not sure it works off VZW.

I have a Droid and downloaded it. Love it. Unfortunately I'm getting rid of this phone and getting an iPhone, which it isn't offered on. So now I'm waiting/hoping they port it over :/

See above on m.disneyworld.com to see it in your browser.

This is a post I did in another thread on the comparison of Lines and MM.

****************
If you have verizon, while the Mobile Magic isn't listed as supported, my phone isn't but it works, you should try that one, if available in the appstore. If not, try visiting: m.disneyworld.com

Not sure if URL works outside of a Verizon phone, but you can try. If you aren't in a park with Mobile Magic, you won't see wait time, its only once you are in the park. It uses GPS location.

I have both Disney's Mobile Magic and Lines from Touring Plan. Since I'm with VZW, I think I get the best of both worlds.

With VZW's MM, you get official wait times, FP return times, show times, etc. that right there, if you are in a park is worth it. You cannot see times, other than FP "Available" or "not available" and a generic "See now" or "High" or "Moderate" wait times if you arne't in a park. Once you are in, you get exact times.

Its only been off 2 times since I first used it with my old feature phone, and the worst it was off was 5 minutes. Once was IASW but it updated within 5 minutes. It hink they just switched the wait time and it didn't update immediately. I walked by it to get a FP for PP and when I walked back, it was fixed.

Lines gives a fairly accurate estimate, more when folks just updated and you can see what someone says the times are. They forecast what the times will be and they've generally been within 5min +/- the times I've used them. What I think Lines is best at is if you don't have VZW, the accuracy then is pretty good. also, if you want to do a touring plan, then they have various options (w/ kids, without, teens, early risers, late arrivals, etc). Also, they have the crowd calendar which shows what events are going on and what they estimate the crowds to be.

I personally use that feature the most for TouringPlans.com, the calendar. Now that I have Mobile Magic, I use that in the parks. If I want to see another park, I switch back to Lines to see.

Another new feature on Lines is that not only can you update their ride times, but you can also time it now too. So when you get in line, when you add a time, you can time it instead. I'd forget to stop once I got to the front, so I just enter the ride time listed.

they are both good apps, each with their own strengths.

Howe do you manually enter reminders? I'm looking at the app on my Droid X and for the life of me, cannot figure it out. I can only see where you can make reservations.

If it is a verizon phone, yes. If it is not the short answer is *no*. The long answer is pm me.

While in the app, hit menu, then setting a, the you should see alerts and reminders.

I had actually paid for the verizon mobile magic last year when I had my old phone but have since upgraded to the iphone and of course now they make it free too, lol

I did like the mobile magic app a lot but I also have lines from touringplans and find it to be fantastic as well.

Since it was about 7 months since I used them both I'm sure things have changed but the one thing I preferred on Lines was the listing on wait times for character meet & greets. Mobile Magic didn't give the estimated wait times like lines did. For us that was a deal breaker as we won't wait in line more than 20 minutes for characters with a 2 yr old in tow.

Has this changed?

It's only lets you set a reminder by time, so I can't actually set up reminders for the week I'll be there. It looks like I'd have to set a reminder on a daily basis.

I checked this out after you posted this and you are correct. Now I think we have our first suggestion for Disney (cmon Disney I know you monitor these boards). It would be nice to have a trip planning calendar built into the app. I know a previous poster mentioned being able to access your disneyworld.com account info and pull things like dinning reservations, room info etc. to the app. That would be a nice feature. I use tripit.com and their accompanying android app for all my reservations and dining info, but it would be nice to have all that in one place. I have a feeling this app is going to become more of a priority for Disney in the near future. Really if they want to stay current they don't have a choice.

We downloaded the official verizon app which was supposed to be free, but there appear to be strings attached- the app was free, but verizon charged us to download it. We have not used it yet in the park, but it seems that we will be charged per minute of use, which would seem to make it less attractive to use frequently while on our trip. Our phone is on the list of app-compatible phones, but it is not a smartphone- is that the reason for all the hidden fees? I always thoughts a free app would be... well, free!

You must have what the business calls a "feature" phone. Which is one that has access to mobile internet, email and things like that, but is not a "smartphone". I am going to assume that you do not have a mobile data plan. While the app itself is free (I think when they brought it out in 2009 it was only available for certain feature phones at a price of 9.99 for 180 days of use!) it will require data access on your cell phone plan, or you will easily rack up data charges very very quickly. My advice to you would be to contact Verizon and see if maybe you can add a chunk of mobile data for a month or something like that. I'm not too familiar with their plans and such but it could be an option.

The Omnia II is a verizon phone (windows mobile) and the Stratosphere will be a verizon phone too (android).

Is there a long answer that can get it on a windows mobile phone?

CentralFloridian99, I have an Android, and I don't see Disney Mobile Magic listed in my Android Market. Can you tell me how you found it?
