Okay...... I took my daughter shopping today to buy all of the cousins Christmas gifts.....in the mean time I was trying to find out what she might like....DS/dog combo....a must.. I had bought the blue DS but she wants the teal ... so now I have both. She also liked the Disney mix stick...what age is this good for? She is 10 and I am not sure if I should get her this or get her and Ipod. Any info?
Thank you.... I have learned sooooo much from this board.... I LOVE IT!!!!

Thanks again

Wendy

My oldest dd saved up for an Ipod shuffle last year in 6th grade. It's been great and seems pretty sturdy, so it can take some banging around. When Disney came out with their MP3 player, I decided to buy this one for my younger dd, 9, for Christmas, based on price more than anything. I didn't want to pay twice as much for something she might lose. :rolleyes2 She didn't ask for one, but I'm sure she'll enjoy it. I bought her an Idog too (her sister has one). I haven't opened it yet, so I can't say how the Disney MP3 player compares to the Ipod as far as ease of use goes, but the Ipod has been great. I know I didn't really answer your question, sorry. I hope it helped in some way though...

My dd (10) was saving up for a mini-ipod, but when she finally was able to buy one, they discontinued them and replaced them with the Nano. To say she was not happy is an understatement., We ended up going to Best Buy and she got a Sandisk MP3 player. It was originally $129, but was on sale for $89.99 so she got that and LOVES IT!! She likes it better than the IPOD b/c hers has an fm radio in it and also a voice recorder. Very good buy for the money. We have downloaded cds on it for her and although "getting" to the songs you want played on it is more difficult than the IPOD, she doesn't care. Now that she has this, a few of her friends want that model instead of the IPOD b/c they have seen how good it is. I know it's not the Disney Stick, but I hope this was helpful.

I got the mix sticks for my kids (9 and 7) instead of the ipod. Another thread talked about how fragile the nano is and how easily it is scratched. Neither child is great at keeping things put away and cared for. I also thought that the mix stick held enough music that they would have plenty to listen to. Plus you can buy the pre-loaded cards that just plug in without having to download. I guess I will use this as a trial to see if they could use/maintain a more expensive player later. $49.00 at disneyshopping.com with free shipping is not bad and they can have more to open on Christmas too!

We are also looking at the Disney Mix Sticks for our 9 year old as she wants an ipod but we don't want to spend the money to have her loose it. All these reviews are very helpful! What is the code for free shipping on the Disney site?

I didn't need a code when I bought them. I used standard shipping and it was free. I will chack again and if there is a code I will repost.

Hi Try HOLIDAYTREAT for and extra 10% I don't think the TOYS25 works for that 25%. It free ship with 75 today I think. :earsgirl:

I got an e-mail about a new discount code THANKS for 20% off. But it doesn't seem to be working. It looks like electronic items are excluded from discounts. :confused3

Does anyone think this would be ok for my dd who is 14 and my ds who is 12?? They want an mp3 player and I have a certain budget for Christmas.. If I buy this one it is around $50 which will still leave some money for a few other gifts.. It looks like it holds 50 or 60 songs I cant remember which I think would be sufficient for a first mp3 player.. If they take care of it then I might think about spending money to get them one much nicer down the road..

Does anyone have a picture or link to one ?? I would like to see what it looks like... sounds like a nice xmas present ...

My dd (9) has the ipod mini, she loves it. We decided to purchase the mix stick for our ds (4) for Christmas. We plan to open it and put all of his music on it so when he gets it under the tree he can put it on and start to listen to it right away. I think the mix stick would be a fine "starter" MP3 player. The mix stick is small, we have the chrome one, but the ipod just seems more durable.

On disneyshopping it does say that the extra 20% off does not apply to electronics etc.

But is $49.99 a good price for these? I am also in the "Ipod maybe" group for my 9 y/o and she loves anything Tink so I'm thinking she would like this to start out with.

My family is iPod obsessed. I looked at the Disney mix stix to have a "back-up" just for working out, but honestly, it just didn't seem very durable. I've been using my iPod mini to workout with no problems and my concerns about shaking it around so much have been alleviated. We bought my neice (10) an iPod Nano for her birthday in October. She loves it, takes it everywhere and uses it constantly with no problems. If you can afford it, I think the iPod Nano is a MUCH better quality. I don't think it's fragile at all, though the exterior cases do scratch. Scratches show much more on the black then the white, so if you're concerned, the white is probably a better option. They also have Nano "tubes" which are cases that conceal most of the exterior of the Nano and will protect it from scratches.

I just wanted to comment about the mix stick for your 14 y.o. To you and I, 60 songs sounds like a lot of music. If your child is like most 14 y.o.'s these days, 60 songs is a drop in the bucket. That's only about 4-6 CD's worth of music. My daughter received an iPod mini on her 15th birthday this past January and I believe has approx. 400 downloads on hers by now. This includes transferring her current CDs, downloading music, and a few comedy routine downloads, etc. I swear that her earbud headphones have begun to take root in her ears! I also think that even tho' you can expand the mix stick with SD cards, that just makes for more "stuff" to bring along. Not to mention how small these cards are....very easy to drop/lose.

I'm considering the Disney mix stick for my 10 y.o., but I wouldn't even give it a thought if my older one was in the market for an MP3 player. There are other, less pricey options than the iPod....some are less than $100 now....

JMHO.... :earsboy:

We've been thinking about the same thing because DD is so young, 7. We got her a cd walkman to wear to the dentist when she started going at 4. DH ended up using the most and it was stolen from his car. Well last year for her visit she started to get very worried because she didn't have her music so we bought an iRiver MP3 player and it works great. Of course DH has taken it over (which is totally not a problem) but we were considering getting her the mix stick. Then again I just got an iPod shuffle for $70, so should I just get that for her? :confused3 So basically I'm no help but considering the same things you are. :)

Where did you get the shuffle for $70.00 ???
Would love to get one as a gift... if its that price !

I got it at Overstock.com w/a discount code but they're sold out now...sorry. :( Oh wait I just checked and they have them in again but they're at $84.99 for the 512 mb. Our Aldi's had them too for either the same price or $59.99, I'm not quite sure because I missed out on that, they were sold out when I went in. I heard about both on the budget board here.

I was at Target yesterday, and they have the Mix Sticks in stock, 4 different designs, with 2 kids of Mix Clips as well. DSD12 really wants the Tinkerbell one, so I am getting her that for Christmas (plus, I don't have to worry about her older brother wanting to carry around something with Tink on it!).
