I got a deal on a Mix Max as a possible Christmas present for ds7 a while back, and I am trying to find out information on putting music on it. (The manual is still sealed in the inner plastic with the Mix Max, and I didn't want to open it in case I end up returning it to the store.) I'm technologically challenged, but I've done itunes with an ipod for dd, and I have no idea where you would go to download songs onto a Mix Max. We put songs from dd's cds on her ipod, but can you do something like that with a Mix Max? I know about the Mix Clips, but I don't want to be limited to buying those. Any help you can provide is welcomed and appreciated.

This is a great product...it may seem like a pain to load it, but it is well worh the effort. My husband found it easy to load cds and books from cds to it...however, I am not sure how he did it. We were also able to load our dvds to it. We ripped the dvds using software from:

http://magicdvdripper.com/

I believe they have a free trial so you can use the software to rip up to maybe 5 dvds. It takes a bit of time, but is pretty straightforward. We also put several shows on 1 and 2 gb sd memory cards, which are a handy little "library". Our kids use their mix maxes just about daily.

Thanks! That's good to hear. Target had both the Mix Max and the Mix Sticks for $20 in the clearance section a month or two ago. With them both being the same price, I went for the one that would usually be more expensive. I was getting it more for the music. I don't know if it will be used much for the video feature, but that would be great for traveling. DS7 has mentioned before that he'd like to have an ipod like his big sister, and this seemed like a good deal. It's good to know that there will be a way to use CDs to put music on it.

I'm curious too. I bought them for my kids over the summer and want to load them before I put them under the tree. That's my plan this week while they are at school.

Did you use the dvd ripper site you mentioned to do this? (Sorry if that is a silly question. Remember, I'm technologically challenged.)

That's a nice idea to have it pre-loaded for them.

Yes, please, those of you who have successfully figured out this Mix Max thing, help the rest of us. :worship:

I'm scared to death I won't be able to figure out how to do it! :scared1: I'm not that computer savvy, either.

We use Windows Media to rip CDs, then load them onto her Mix Max (and Mix Stick). We have also purchased music from Amazon.com that we downloaded onto Windows Media, then synced onto the Mix Max.

Yes..we had a hard time until we found magicdvdripper.com . They have a list of different mp4 players that they can rip dvds to the specifications for and mix max is on the list, so it is point and click and pretty straightforward. It does take a lot of time though. We have done movies, but dvds of 1/2 hour shows work great too and the individual shows rip faster and give the kids a bigger selection. Also, it doesn't take as long to watch, so that is better for use in smaller chunks of time.

DEFINATELY preload it...especially if you are ripping dvds...that takes time. Also, you can download audiobooks from the library for free. We have a couple of the Narnia series.

Please tell me more about how to use Windows Media. I've never used it before. Is that "Windows Media Player" that's already on my computer? Thank you.

Thank you so much for your helpfulness and patience with my technology issues. Let me see if I've got this straight...You use the magic dvd ripper to rip the dvds according to the site's specifications for the Mix Max and load them to an SD card, not directly to the Mix Max?

We've used CDs from our public library to put on DD's ipod, but the audio books on CD are a great idea, too.

Yup, that's it. There is a menu bar across the top with "Now Playing", "Library", "Rip", "Burn", and "Sync". To rip a CD, insert the CD in your CD drive, then click on "Rip". The CD will be transferred to a Windows Media file. You can then attach the Mix Max to the computer with the USB cable. The Windows Media player will recognize the player, then click "Sync". You can just drag and drop the songs onto the right side of the screen. When you have all the songe you want to load, click on the "Start Sync" button. The songs will load onto the Mix Max.

It's really very easy- you'll get the hang of it in no time. I figured it out on my own, and I am not AT ALL computer savvy.

Thank you so much! That doesn't sound too difficult. I just may be able to pre-load some songs on this before Christmas.

I really appreciate everyone's responses and helpful information.

Any other tips, advice, or comments are always welcome.
:thanks:

How do I download a dvd or movie onto a memory card. My kids have music on their mix max and we want to put movies onto the external memory cards.

Has anyone had trouble installing the mix it plug-in on their computer?

I am here to announce 1) I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff:rotfl: and that 2) I downloaded the magicdvdripper program and it's SOOOOO easy!!! You get 5 free uses and each use you can rip as many movies as you want. I hit up all my friends/family for their kids' DVDs and ripped a BUNCH before we gave our son his Mix Max for christmas. He just loves it!!! as a PP mentioned, you just choose "Mix Max" for the type of player you're using. You can also choose to only rip the main movie, not the previews which saves a lot of memory card space. My son has 6 full-length movies on each 3GB SD memory card. I highly recommend magicdvdripper!!!!!

To get music on it you can just plug the Mix Max into the computer, right click on musci tracks on your computer and send it to the player. Also super easy. My computer even has a card read built in for dummies like me so it's a no brainer. Good luck!!!
