What exactly is the relationship between Disney and MGM regarding this park?

Reason I ask is because there's a $2.7 billion, 4300-acre development, Riverbend Crossing, that's about to begin construction in DeSoto County, MS which is part of the Memphis TN-AR-MS MSA.

The project includes an aquarium and an MGM Studio theme park.

Would Disney have any hand in this?

Here's an excerpt from a news article about the development:

Mississippi government is banking on the MGM theme park to be built. Should that aspect of the project not go through, a large portion of jobs and income would be lost. Desoto County. Rep. John Mayo does not feel like this will be a problem, after already being flown out to California to look at MGM drawings of the theme park.

"The developers are for real," wrote Mayo, "having similar projects in Paris around EuroDisney, Texas, and several in Southern California.

DeSoto County borders Memphis on the south and Tunica County on the north. Tunica County is the nation's 3rd most-visited gaming center. There's also another mega-development set to start there, The Myriad Botanical Resort.

This is a $1.9 billion, 540-acre development that includes:
* 1,200 room 4-star hotel
* 375,000 sq. ft. convention center
* 250,000 sq. ft. of retail
* 18-hole indoor golf course (7,005 yards)
* 10,000 seat arena
* Luxury Spa
* Water Park
* Snow Park

Paul’s work is in place at Disney Tokyo, Royal Pacic Resort atUniversal Orlando, plus other resort names including the Westin Maui and Hyatt Regency Maui, Westin Kauai (now Marriott Kauai) and Hyatt Regency Waikoloa (now Hilton Waikoloa Village), continually one of the most popular resorts in Hawaii.

It's proposed that these two developments will be linked to Memphis via light rail.

The Tunica-Memphis area draws approximately 15-20 million visitors per year. Given that and two mega-developments that total over $4.5 billion plus the built-in tourist numbers, would Disney go in with MGM on a park like this?

Lately all rumor's seem to suggest that disney is trying to drop the mgm name from the disney mgm studios in fla.I guess with this and any and all rumor's we'll have to wait and see for sure.

There is no connection between Disney and MGM.

In Florida, Disney licensed the name and logo of the old MGM Studios to use on their park. Since there the MGM Company has changed hands several times and is now owned by Sony and several other investors.

Any planned entertainment center/theme park has nothing to do with Disney, and is most likely just a licensed deal between the developer and MGM. Those developers having "similar projects" in Paris and Southern California just means they specialize in going after tourist areas - but they are not Disney. But dropping the name does help to impress people and make county officals a little more eager to deal.

Please note - at one time (mid-1990's) Disney did have plans to clone The Disney/MGM Studios to Tokyo and Paris, and to create a mini-park in Burbank. The Japanese turned down the plans, the Paris project couldn't afford rides let along the license fee for "MGM" and the Burbank project was just to stick a corporate finger in the corporate eyes of Universal.

I'd love to have any type of Disney park close to our area.

Maybe someday -- when Disney revisits the idea of regional, extended weekend parks.

What paper did this come from? I am SO excited to see this because I'm in south MS and it would be GREAT!!!
